    Default Saving a Carousel

While vintage carousels may not be everyone's idea of one of the finer things in life, all ages can appreciate the aesthetic appeal of them. Locally, we have had the privilege of enjoying a vintage carousel since it was purchased by the city in 1934 and set up outdoors at Chippewa Park. It was built by W C Parker Company in 1915. It is one of only three of it's kind left in the world.

Considering it is outdoors and the climate we have, it has had a lot of wear and tear over the years. A decision was made on the parks 100th anniversary to do a complete restoration. This has been ongoing for a number of years and involves some local carvers as well as others. Kind of amazing and lucky to find local talent capable of doing this work.

Maybe by the time I visit Thunder Bay next, maybe it will be open again and I can have a ride after I finish at the Amethyst mines.

Let me know when you do decide to come up here. I'd be happy to let you know more sites to visit and go for coffee too.

I love a carousel, we have a few steam powered ones that tour round my neck of the woods.

This one is actually a Galloper as it turns clockwise. Built in 1895 by Robert Tidman & Sons in Norwich.

My daughter and I have ridden it many times

That was a great story and I see it is now in it's own indoor pavilion which ours is unfortunately not.
