Thread: Single Malt

Was hanging out with a friend as our wives were at book club together. He is a personal assistant to a very prominent family in Atlanta and while he was giving me a tour of there house (wow! ) He asked if I wanted a drink. I did and he said to help myself to the liquor cabinet as the lady of the house (one child and no one else in the family) doesn't drink anything but wine when she does drink. There was only one bottle of scotch in the cabinet. 1981 Macallan 18 year. Three fingers into a waterford double old fashion (maeve i believe) later and I was in heaven. I like the Cask strength usually but this was an all out treat for sure.

I have a season long golf bet (I have to lower my handicap index by 3 points) .... if I win, four guys have to buy me a bottle of 25+ year old scotch, each... that's four bottles of very nice scotch.

I need to work on the wish list, not to mention my game. I really want to win this bet.

Anyone have suggestions for scotch in the $200-$250 range? (You know, for when I win.)

I don't think so, but I can't tell you for sure. It's got 20% more alcohol than the standard stuff, and it's not cold filtered. And as the name suggests, it's aged in smaller barrels so there's more oak. There's an initial sweetness to it that I'm starting to like, but it was off-putting initially...probably due to the fact that it wasn't quite what I expected. You can read a bit of marketing here.

I hope you add a small splash of water? It really releases the flavour.

And the JW blue is indeed a great whisky, even though I don't like blends.
But the pricetag prevented me from buying a full bottle.

Personally I like to add a single large ice cube instead. I know it's not supposed to be chilled, but...
A large part of why I enjoy it that way is visual. I love watching the tendrils of melting ice curl into the scotch.

I'm morally against blended scotches, but I do hear the Walker Blue is quite tasty.

It is worth every penny!!!! I'm not much of a drinker but I love JW blue. The bottle calls my name everytime I walk by it !!!

A bottle of Walker Blue would be 25000 pennies for a fifth in my neck of the woods. I would like to try it, so I need to check to see if I can't find a smaller bottle.

I don't put water in my whisky as a rule, but I do know a lot of guys do to bring out the flavor. I'll give it a whirl tonight.

I tasted the blue because I go a set of JW miniatures for my birthday.
Red and black... well... they contain alcohol...

The gold is ok, the green is not bad, but the blue is marvelous.
And since the bottles were only hotel mini bar sized, I think the set was affordable.
