If anyone's in New York - any of the various Papaya franchises makes quality dogs any way you like'em. The classic answer is Nathan's, the original spot in coney Island. There you can have fantastic dogs and wash'em down with some quality New York brews; not to mention there's a minor league baseball team that plays down the block!

i could never really stand to eat hot dogs......with one exception, at a baseball game, preferably at progessive stadium (in cleveland) because they have the absolute BEST mustard there and it is only available in cleveland.

Anyone from Los Angeles will know this spot:
Pink's on La Brea. I used to live down the street. There's a line in front from the minute they open until the minute they close every day. It's worth the wait.

Here in RI they make "New York System Hot Wieners". They have little to do with NY though. CHeck it out here: Don't call it a hot dog - ExploreNewEngland.com
They're great. When I lived in NYC, I would go to any of the various Papaya dog places probably twice a week. There was also a place on St. Marks in the lower East side IIRC that did all deep fried dogs- wrapped in bacon and all that. Those were also great but expensive as far as hot dogs go.
Back in the day when we would drive from Philly to NJ to visit relatives, we would always stop at this place Hank's Franks. I still love that place. Great toppings. Creamy potatoes was one of the best.
