    Default Wood Stove!

After years of wanting a wood stove, I broke down and bought a used (*previously enjoyed*) one. It's amazing the heat this throws out. Not sure that this is one of the *finer things in life*...but sitting in front of it now...with my glass of eagle rare...it seems damn fine to me.

Nice! Look at keeping a pan of water on top and you will get a nice humidity in the house - saves on dried-out nose problems. Those things do throw the heat!

Nice work on the hearth too! I had a friend who had a similar layout...used the stove to heat the whole house (a small East-cost row home, where the central staircase was like a wind tunnel)....he added a final edge of quarter round along the edge of the new slate he put in and stained it to match his floors. It looks like the whole set-up has been there since the house was built!

    Default OOoooooo

Definitely a finer thing in life.... We put one back into the house about 3 years ago... We call it the devil box because we cannot seem to stay awake when it is going, the warmth of a wood fire, the dancing flames, and ZZZzzzzzzzz

    That is a great job!

The water idea is a good one. I just buy a cold humidifier to give some moisture to the air. It keeps your skin and nasal passages from drying out and that is part of your immune system. Moisture also add mass to the air so that when you heat the air up fluctuations in heat output will not be noticed and heat transfer to your body is faster and easier.
    Sorry sometimes I just ramble.

I've got my eye on a few of the cast iron enameled pots specifically made for wood stoves, but haven't picked one up yet. I have a fully equipped woodshop..but still haven't made some molding for around the tile edge. It didn't need to be there to pass inspection, and it has pretty much been burning since then (3 months now). I seem to have a problem finishing my projects....from what I gather, that is a pretty common problem...

I must say, I love the pic with the drop cloth hood you made to suck up your saw dust and chips. Reminds me of a home sandblast hood I made

Very nice wood stove too. That thing is awesome!

Man....I had to level out the concrete hearth after removing the original slate tile, so I set up that hood. I couldn't grind for more than a minute without that thing becoming a complete cloud. It's a good thing I had a respirator on.

    You still do any sandblasting?

Not lately. I live in an apartment right now- the biggest thing I've done is use a highspeed to grind and cut metal.
