    Default Cigars & Humidors

I've been smoking cigars for a while now, but just broke down (finally!) and bought a humidor. I set it up yesterday and sent for some cigars from Phatash.com but I have a question for you experts out there. When I go to a smoke shop to buy a cigar they are still wrapped individually, as they are when they are first shipped. When you buy a box at a time to store in your home humidor, do you keep them individually wrapped or remove the wrapping? I hadn't thought of this until today and I'm not sure what to do when they arrive. Any other hints or tips would be appreciated as well!

    Thanks!!!

I usually have about 200 cigars on hand. I like to pull them out of the cello wraps and let them age. It's nice finding a year old cigar that has mellowed, ooooh that's good.

I don't think there is a conclusive "right answer" to this.

The wrappers do allow moisture through but at an obvious slower rate. Leaving them on might help is you are not right on top of the humidification. They also protect the cigars from damage due to minor handling.

The other argument is that they mellow better when unwrapped. I currently have three humidors. Two contain wrapped and the other one unwrapped sticks. I think I prefer wrapped myself. Own preference I guess.

Welcome to the wonderful world of stogies!

This is a personal preference. I have many that I keep wrapped and many that I keep unwrapped; depending on what make they are and how fast I want them to age.

    Experiment...

He, he, haven't you heard of CAD? I aspire to have only 200 cigars.

I take the wrap off, I keep many flavors in my humidor, and I enjoy letting them all blend. my really fancy "special occasion" stogies (like the cubans I smuggled in thru new zealand) stay in their tubes, individually humidified, to prevent watering down their flavor.

prolly got about 150 cigars in the humidor right now, it's pretty full. I keep 2 humidifiers (one traditional, one gel) in it and monitor it with both digital and analog hygrometers.

I used to do the 50/50 water/PPG thing with the green florist's foam, but found that I preferred my smokes a little drier. I've been happy with the 65% humidity beads from here.
I use a few pounds in my fridgeador to keep my stash (1200+) smokeable.
