As for coloring, a coloring bowl like the one shown with the Cavalier is really the secret. I've got three coloring bowls, a smooth meer, a pebbled meer (shown w/ Cavalier), and an XL briar coloring bowl made for me by Mike Butera after much hounding. AFAIK it's the only one in existence, and I use it for smoking my english tobaccos in my meerschaums.
It is sad the Balkan Sobranie disappeared from the market, it was a favorite of mine too. I'm not sure where you are located, but my local Tobacconist has a custom blend called Balkan Supreme they blended specifically for those who miss the Balkan Sobranie. The description in their catalog reads: "If you miss the old Balkan Sobranie, this is your blend. A classic balkan mixture of old." I tried it just last weekend and found it to be quite comprable. PM me and I can help you get some.

What kind of English blends do you smoke? I took up the pipe a year ago after smoking cigars for years. I got tired of feeling as though I had sucked on the tail pipe of a mack truck everytime I smoked a cigar!

I recently tried some My Mixture 965 which gave me the worse headache I have ever had in my life. I've also tried some Forg Morton, but didn't take to that one very well either. I'm beginning to think maybe English blends just don't agree with me.
