Too right - I wouldn't like to go down one of our black routes on an old suspensionless boneshaker! Scotland was voted the best MTB destination in the world last year you know - by an international federation I should add - not some jocks on bikes! I am looking at upgrading my hardtail orange gringo for a full suss Comencal if things go well this year. A guy passes my house quite regularly on a penny farthing - you must get a great view over hedges on them, but watch those bumps, it's a long way to fall.

Thanked: 0Suits ... part improvement, part decline.
Improvement ... better fabrics. You can get a finer and greater selection of cloth from which to make a suit now, compared to yesteryear.
Decline ... the standard of construction. Not just the dissapearance of so many custom tailors, but the overall reliance on machines and cost-saving corner-cutting.

Otoh the same technology also enables me to find like minded people to increase my knowledge about razors and hones, and we can help each other whereas in the past it would come down to trial and error or apprenticeship , guarding my secret knowledge and very slow progess of the knowledge pool.

Locks and keys- obvious improvement over the old days.
Vehicles are a no brainer, but then again I'm comparing the Model T types to the cars of the 50's onward
Medicine of course!
The one big thing I can come up with that was better in the olden days- thugs. These days everyone wants to look/act like a gangbanger and it's just ridiculous. You can't walk down a country road anymore without having to worry about one of these hooligans bothering you. It wasn't too long ago when people could let their kids play outside with their friends without supervision.
