Not a problem! Pandora (for the curious) is free internet radio without commercials. It plays non-stop music for as long as you want, and the music is all based on what you like. They actually categorize different types of songs and artists and use that to play new music you've likely not heard, as well as some that you have.
For instance, I'm listening to my swing station right now. I asked Pandora why they played this certain song (which I like), and it says: We're playing this track because it features blues roots, jazz influences, acoustic rhythm piano, acoustic sonority and heavy melodic ornamentation.
It's not always spot on, especially at first, but once you tweak it by telling it if you like certain songs or don't like others, it becomes truly amazing how it can pick out some of the best songs ever.
The thing I really love about it though is that it's truly free. If you want to save your stations, you just have to sign up for a free account. They don't send you e-mails, they don't charge, there aren't any pop-ups. I just start it up and minimize then groove for the rest of the day. It's a great way to find good shaving music

Thanked: 586I love straight ahead jazz, bebop, hard bop and new and old swing. I am lucky to have many friends that are pretty heavy hitters in the music world. Jeanie Bryson is one of my very dearest friends. Check out her music:

Thanked: 0I'll chime in here! Top stuff. And I'll certainly have to try out that Pandora place.
EDIT: I just did, and they don't allow non-US visitors. Bummer.Last edited by Bledge; 04-18-2008 at 10:38 AM.

Thanked: 0Big Bad Voodoo Daddies are indeed good swing, but they are new swing. Look up some Glenn Miller (and go beyond In the Mood and Pennslyvanni 6-5000) The Secret Broadcasts 3-CD set is GREAT .
Try listening to some of these from him:
Moonlight Serenade
Pistol Packin' Mama
The GI Jive
By The Waters of Minnetonka
April in Paris
String of Pearls
American Patrol
Ciribiribin
Sentimental Journey
Stormy Weather
A Nightengale Sang in Barkley Square
Perfidia
Listen to the Andrews Sisters:
Beer Barrel Polka
Run, Rabbit, Run
I've Got No Strings
Donkey Serenade
Rum and Coca-Cola
Listen to Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Al Dexter, Hellen O'Connell. To name just a few.
As you can tell, I'm much more into the old stuff, though I do certainly enjoy some of the new stuff. As for jazz, I never really got into it. I loved playing the trumpet and I loved brass and all, but I dunno, I stuck to swing.Last edited by smokinstang65; 04-19-2008 at 07:12 PM.
