I'm English with some Irish ancestry so I have an Irish tartan somewhere but I don't wear it. I married a Scots woman who's father was a Highlander and part of the Farquharson clan - he welcomed me into the family and invited me to wear the family tartan.

So I've a medium weight kilt in the Farquharson Modern tartan, and I've also got an Olive Survival Utilikilt.

So I was reading up on kilts in both this thread and some info from that corsets thread and it has sparked my interest. I think I want a utilikilt. lol

Sounds funny to say, but it seriously sounds like some great freedom. Who wears them often? Anyone besides Jockeys? I remember at the MA get-together Gustav had one on but I didn't really inquire. lol. Are they really that comfortable and functional? What kind of looks do you get from people? Any other info that is a kilt FAQ must?

I wish I had the "b*lls" to wear mine more often. Surprisingly in Scotland one can get a lot of flack for wearing a kilt - especially if it isn't a traditional tartan one.

I have a strong urge to wear mine to work tomorrow

I have a few, although my tartans don't get worn much during the late spring/summer (they could since I've moved north, but it's habit at this point). My everyday kilts are utilikilts (originals) but I've been eyeing the survivor utilikilt. (I looked at the mocker, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly at the office).

I wear Mactavish Dress (sometimes called Thompson Blue) on any occasion I can. I find that the only problem with wearing a kilt is that I tend to feel like I want to drink a ton! It makes me feel like I can throw a car over a building for some reason. LOL.

My favorite response to the question "what are you wearing under there?" depends on who's asking and how they ask. If it is the smartass that jockeys mentioned above (and more often than not it is) I like this response (to be uttered with eye contact and a grin):

    "Your mother's lipstick."

If it is a pretty girl, I like this one:

"A blue ribbon for first prize."

I got mine for my 21st birthday. Its the family clan tartan (Ogilvie). I wore it for my wedding, for my best friends wedding (when I was best man), for two other weddings recently and I have another wedding in August to go to. Aside from that i've worn it for alot of ceilidhs (spell that right now folks) and it is ALWAYS a big hit with the ladies. Apparently they are super sexy and if it takes a few insecure neds asking if i'm gay to get that kinda attention from the ladies then game on!

Your mother's lipstick! I am freaking cracking up! I love that answer. I have been thinking of a kilt and now I just might get it.

    Default KILTS!!!!

I wear A Clan Campbell tartan. I first wore a kilt at a friends wedding. Since then I love wearing them and it makes me proud to be of Scot-Irish decent.
