Thanked: 556Stella is an almost 13-year old golden retriever. She has plates and pins in both knees after reconstructive surgery 5 and 6 years ago.
We were on holiday and our daughter was dog sitting. Our 14-month high energy golden male knocked her over and she yelped in pain and could not get up so our daughter took her to the emergency vet. X-rays showed a slight fracture but a mass in her leg bone and later x-rays showed spots in her chest. She was diagnosed with bone cancer that has spread to her lungs. You wouldn’t know it from the way she moves or acts.
We spent a miserable last few days on vacation and I had actually arranged the euthanasia vet appointment, but had second thoughts. She’s now on three different painkillers and running around like a puppy, although looking somewhat stoned.
You never want to keep a dog going because it’s what you need, but I’m glad I made that decision. I wasn’t ready to say good bye and she obviously was not ready to go. We’ll both know when that time has come.

Stealing a cup cake. We've always had small dogs, and now that we have a Blue Heeler, we're still getting used to not placing items near the edge of the counter.

I've been torn between getting a dog and not getting a dog. When I was growing up we always had a dog, my granny had a dog, my grandparents had a dog, the aunts and uncles always had a dog.
However with the divorce she not only got the gold mine but she got the dog. With me living alone working two jobs it wasn't feasable to have a dog so I went without for around 9 years. Then I retired---BUT then I fullfilled a lifetime dream of owning and riding a Harley and have made summer trips ever since. So having a dog would put an inconvience on my kids.
With that said, my oldest has encouraged me to get a dog and she and the grandkids would be happy to take care of my buddy when I was gone.
I'm still mulling things over.
With that said, I hope everyone enjoys this. Only one dog but it's a cute one.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I agree with your oldest, Roy, you should get a dog. Perhaps next fall after your summer Harley excursions. Besides, you can't deprive your grandchildren of the joy of taking care of it while you're gone.

I put my limited Carpentry skills to work and built her a set of steps so she can climb up and down into the front window. she loves it up there..
The Lil Princess reigns over her domain keeping the invading Robins at bay with her Barks and Growls we are waiting for her first sighting of a larger animal hehehe
Proud Papa moment I helped her go up twice and she figured it out, down took a few more times but she got it by the next day on her own ..
