My heart goes out to you. You are not alone in facing this event that is both sorrowful and joyful. Sorrow on our part and joyful in knowing that we can spare our beloved animals any further pain. I had this event twice this last year. First my very loving 25 lb cat, Prince, 5 months ago and last month his mother, Lil Mama who was my hero (I posted a thread about her). Both because of medical issues. One of the few things I have retained from my organized religion that I no longer practice is the act of lighting a 24 hour candle commemorating the passing of a family member. I have extended that to include my animals. I moved all the events to New Years Eve and at sundown light a candle for each parent, one brother and a fourth for all the animals that have been in my life. It is an evening of recollection and celebration of all that have gone before us. We, human and animal alike are with you.
My thoughts go out to you Gonzo,
The undying love of my pets has been a source of strength and hope in many a hard time.
I know you will miss Charlie, our pets have a way of finding a special place in our hearts.
My heart goes out to you Gonzo. This is most difficult obligation of loving our dogs. As the guardians of our beloved pets
we are left with the heartbreak while our dog is now pain free. I hope your best memories will help overcome the sadness of this day. All the best.
Bob
I'm heartbroken for you Gonzo. It's so hard because we get so close to them.
Here's our 8yr old Golden Retriever Ike... He's the best therapy that anyone could ever ask for during hard times...

I never know the right answer for this kind of thing as my own pet is reaching older age. he will be in a good place to rest and play for eternity. And if at all possible, a new addition helps ease that loss as well I am told. God be with him and you. My condolences.
So sad for your loss. It is truly a massive loss and I hope you and your family help one another through this time and find a way to love another pet in the future. We are about to lose my step-daughter's cat to cancer and we are sad but loving her to the end.
We have four other cats and in line with this thread one beautiful 1 1/2 YO puppy that we rescued on my birthday a year ago this past August. He is half Australian Shephard, 1/4 Huskie, 1/8 Afgan Hound and 1/8 Japanese Chin. He is very active, a lot of work and definitely smarter than we are!
