Thanked: 22I love lighters, still own a few turbo ones from my days as a smoker. I love Zippo's they are a great brand, some imitation Zippo's are good too. I had a $15 one last me for 6 years before I needed to replace the fuel chamber, only coz the metal clicky thing that sits in the lid broke. I still have that back home somewhere.
By habit, I am a match collector, apparently in Japanese culture that's a bad luck hobby. Oh and not just any matches, more specifically it must be the book type matches, though I do have boxed ones too.

my favorite Zippo is the japanese 5 sided hammered finish, sterling sliver. If I could find one cheap enough and the pipe rig would fit then I'd be determined to make the zippo work for me.

Both my brother and I use Zippos. I think they're great. Mine is a pipe lighter Zippo that is, in fact, the lighter I use every day. I don't have any other lighters and, quite frankly... I don't need more than that. I use it for cigarretes and my pipe. It rises quite a few eyebrows over here... My brother has a "normal" Zippo that, being quite used is extremely nice (mine too...). I think what makes Zippos so special is that - and this is my view only - it turns itself into a part of you. It's an object that gives you confidence... And an odd thing is that one who has a Zippo (and understands the Zippo thing and it's feel...) will hardly leave it on the conversation table: one tends to hold it in the hand... Go figure! I do it and also everybody else I know who have one.
My father, being an attorney at law, when he smoked, he used Dupondts... Now those are lighters! He has one that belonged to his father. It's solid gold... quite a piece!

Thanks for the shots. I do appreciate getting to see it in action.
I don't know if this qualifies as cheap enough, but you can get a soft butane insert that will fit into your Zippo case here. They have a normal version as well as the pipe version. The Tobacco Barn - Thunderbird Lighter Insert by Vector KGM

Holli4pirating. no no no, not a pipe insert the hammer finish case is what I dig
this is from an ebay seller 37 bucks. the sterling sliver is about 150$more. Another cool lighter are the so called "trench lighters" I had a cheap reproduction many years ago. whew wee that rascal would leak in my pocket. I hope whoever stole it enjoyed the fire down belowLast edited by kevint; 08-18-2008 at 09:05 PM.

Oh, I must have misread the post. I thought you had the case and were looking for the insert. My bad. Still, if you have a fav zippo case but want soft butane, check the above link.

The one that looks like a Jedi Light Saber? Great lighter. I bought one about 5 minutes after I saw it. Waiting for the black finish to come in. On the z-flame retrofit for Zippos, I have this to say
ABOMINATION.
If god wanted Zippos to burn butane, he would have designed them that way.

1. yes, now that you mention it, it does look a lot like a lightsaber. my wife thinks it looks rather a lot like something else entirely, and refers to it as such. (hint: pretty sure i'd get smacked with a ban if i told you)
2. if Zippos worked worth a damn when wet, didn't leak napthene, and had a flame that wasn't too anemic to light a churchill, i'd agree with you.
