    PMed...

My JJJ is giving me some troubles, so a new small on to travel with might be in order.

Well, my gift from Icedog has arrived, and she is a beautiful lighter. I didn't really know what to expect, but she is classier than I'd been expecting.

I gave her a quick lookover, purged and filled the tank, and lit her up. The trigger has a nice draw, and the click of the ignition is very crisp. Produces a nice, soft butane flame with good, easy to reach adjustment. I was also a bit surprised by how much fuel she held; she took a lot more than I was expecting based on her size.

If I had to write one complaint, it would be that the flame isn't great at low levels. Instead of rising out the top, there is just a little nub of blue. The result is that I have to run the flame a bit larger that I would like, but normal for me is probably lower than most people use.

I've taken some photos next to my Razor (cell phone), but the dimensions of the lighter are about 3 3/4 x 1 x 3/8. And boy is she light weight; the shell must be real thin. I mean, this is the kind of thing you could leave in your pocket because you wouldn't notice it there.

Big ups to Icedog, this is a classy lighter!

Hey, you're very welcome. That is such an elegant lighter I felt like it should be used and shown off rather than siit in my top drawer next to a bunch of other things I will never use but can't possibly throw away.

You know, the folks here are such an eclectic group of impassioned collectors that I might find nice appreciative homes for alot of things I am holding.

    Default Trench Lighter

Earlier there was a pic of a Japanese "art" trench lighter with a hammered case. I own two other types of trench lighters, the WWI variety where there is no flame, only a spark and a rope. It's really cool to impress my friends with it, but I have a terrible time finding new wick for it.

One of them I keep in my camping supplies for a firestarter, the other stays in my pocket.

Here's a youtube video with a modern, Japanese made rope lighter, but all the same concept.

    Default Finally!

    Greetings Gents

I hope you don't mind me adding my Zippos to the thread. I have finally managed to get some decent photo's from my flipping mutant camera phone.

The first was passed on to me after my Grandpa passed away, it belonged to his best friend (extended family), when they served in the Forces together. Grandpa was RAF and Jeff Parker was RCAF. I always loved the zippo as I was growing up which is why I ended up with it, hehehe.

There is no roman numeral or letter on the base, but it is date stamped 1950, Niagra Falls, Ontario.

The second is a more recent gift from Brad and I just love the finish of it. Can't remember exactly what the name of the finish is but it is a copper one (sorry Brad). This one had the RN - XVI (F), Bradford PA.

I also have a fake Zippo which was a present from my Bro one christmas. It has a black powder coat finish, but only has Zippo stamped on the base, no place of manufacture, no numerals or letter and no date stamp. Isn't he good to me?!

I hope you enjoy the pic's and hopefully Brad will pop on to let you know more about the copper one.

    Silver,

I found that Zippo at a yard sale in its original package. The label on the package called the finish "anitique copper" (well, you know that, you have the package). As most Zippo finishes are silver or stainless steel, I saw this copper one and grabbed it right away for you and/or Spike.

Here is an interesting Zippo website: A Zippo Gallery

Nice Zippo pics. I've actually moved my Thunderbird lighter into my Zippo case because the case construction is way better. Unfortunately, the Zippo does not fit into the Thunderbird's old case, so I've just got a naked Zippo sitting around. I don't feel too bad, since I don't much like Zippos anyway and didn't intend on using it.

That's been my experience too. As I said in my earlier post, clearly tastes vary, but to me there's just something satisfying in the way a Zippo feels and works. And mine is well used, too, after many years--some would say a little battered even--but that just adds character, and as long as it's got fuel and a flint, it never fails. I did order a new one with the pipe insert from Smoker's Forums, but the old one will probably continue to be my everyday lighter.

    Default Corona

I too struggled trying to find a lighter or other burning object to use with my pipes, untill I stumbled upon the Corona Old Boy. This is THE pipe lighter I loved my first one so much I bough 2 more "just in case" now I'm just trying to hide them from my wife. I can not say enough about them they are great.
