My favourite rifle is a Lancaster style flintlock, 40 cal, my belt gun is a colt navy. When I am a horse back, a henry Mod 1860 in 44/40 wcf . I love the smell of black powder in the morning !!

    cheers

BTW what kind of gun rights do you Aussies have left?

I will speak generally, we can still have hand guns and long arms, restricted on auto loading long arms, and we now have to have our privately owned arms stored in gun safes in our homes. Once you are in your states gun licensing system it is workable.
We are beset with political correctness down here, to much like our English cousins. It is very hard to argue the rights of the individual against the collective good.36 dead down at Port Arthur is a very emotive argument which favours opportunist politicians.

    Your making me drool

Here are my absolut favorite guns The best one and one I would never part with is the .375JDJ Bbl I had special ordered from JDJones while I was stationed in Fairbanks AK. Nothing I have shoots better than it does. I've had that Bbl for 17 years and it has never disapointed me.

You have some good hardware there , do you hunt with it, or steel sillouhette ?
My lancaster rifle is by Niel Fields of Vernal, Collerain swamped 44'' barrel, Jim Chambers Lock. I was getting some practice in on the parrots which get into the fruit trees !! The knife which is carried horizontally mounted on my gun belt is damascus steel, forged by a local knife smith, holds a lovely edge, and fits the hand beautifully. The Henry I have carried for years and is a really good rifle, handy on horseback too. The picture of the long rifle in the next message is a lovely rifle, who is the maker?

Nice looking flintlocks there. What lock is on the gun? I'd guess it to be a Siler, but can't be for sure. I have a few custom made flintlocks...and am anxiously awaiting another any day now.

You are dead right about cleaning, I only fired a couple of shots, one to effect, then spent the next 30 minutes cleaning the rifle, I am only using local olive oil in the barrel as I found it cuts the fouling down, . Only shoot spit patch with a fairly loose ball, no short starter. Your rifle has a nice tiger stripe, do you use it much?

Not a heck of a lot in the past couple years. I've been shooting Highpower competition (Service Rifle) almost exclusively, trying to pick up the last few points I need towards the Distinguished Marksman badge. Plus, it's so dry out here for most of the year that I'm a little paranoid of setting the range on fire. I did make it out to a BP rendezvous last year and shot the trail walk and the silhouette course. Another matter is that the stock really pounds on my cheekbone and I end up with a shiner after only a handful of rounds. It's hard not to get flinchy with it.

The rifle was built by a guy named Newman out of Tennessee . I'm not sure about the lock(s). I have a percussion lock for it as well. I had to do some work on the flashhole to improve ignition, plus I did some honing to get the frizzen/pan to seal up nice and tight against the elements. So it's pretty reliable--it's not very often when I get just a flash in the pan.

I owned a Ruger 10/22 .22 cal carbine. I think that was great little weapon. I am thiniking about getting a new one. Does anyone know if they are still a good weapon for plinking and playing?
