EDS (Every Day Shoes)
Here in hot funky Texas a majority of us (retireees, tourists, aliens, and boomers) wear SANDALS! Yes sandals- the kind with the luggage-type fasteners that click in and out for fast removal are the choice (Birkenstock-type). Caution-get them at least one size LARGER, this will protect the toes much better. Our feet are healthier and uglier for it. We wear sandals with or without socks. Socks are worn after5 usually. I buy from Thom McCann or anywhere cheaper ones are sold. The downside perhaps is that feet will have tan lines!
I wear Nunn-Bush wingtips otherwise (oxblood color mostly). Tip: always stow boots and shoes on their sides for better ventilation and drying. If wet, stuff newspaper in them to absorb the moisture. As is posted, Rotate daily wearings. Footwear lasts much longer. Never take good feet for granted. Ask any infantryman about that!Last edited by timberrr59; 09-15-2008 at 02:32 PM. Reason: accuracy

I bought a pair of Johnston & Murphy Meltons tonight. They have a D width toe and B width heel. I wore them for about 5 hours, and I have to say I love them. It rained here today, and my feet were wet all day because I was walking on my socks my shpes were so worn out. It was the perfect time for new shoes.

Prada.
My first pair of Prada shoes lasted me 10 years and two resolings. I loved those things: they were insanely comfortable, and looked gooood. Yeah, they were expensive, but remember what your dad said: "Judge a man by his shoes."
Of course, I have also been known to wear black Chuck Taylors with a suit. But that's just me.

HAHA! A man after my own taste. I wore my Jack Purcell's to work, then put on my Prada's when I got here (can't ride my motorcycle in my Prada's).
I have a few pairs of Prada's, and love 'em. I had to drop some serious cash on them, but like you, one pair has lasted me eight years. The other two pairs are showing signs that they'll go the distance too. I wish I could say the same about their clothes.

I'll throw in a nod for Alden shoes. They're pricey, but we males do get a long time out of a good shoe well maintained....

Actually, I had a little mark on mine too from the shifter . After I had the shoemaker clean it up, I never rode with them again. Now I keep my dress shoes at work, and ride in a pair of jump boots from the 80s.
I agree with you on the clothes. I'm a NYer (former), but not an emaciated one, so they never fit me right anyway.

How do you guys ride with a suit? I was trying to figure out how best to do it, but I couldn't really come up with a viable solution. I just figured I was nuts for wanting to do it

I just do it, most times -- although when it gets cold I generally just use one of the coats I leave at work for just that reason (and the occasional coffee accident before big meeting).
I have been known, I should note, to wear my old mx gear under my suit jacket, for those days when I feel the need for armor. The secretaries laugh, but hey, it's safe.

Florsheim Imperial Wingtips in black. They're heavy, but I like that. I don't like ultra light dress shoes and these will last me forever. I wear them with jeans sometimes and have been known to wear them around the house to keep my feet warm rather than slippers.

I imagine these shoes will last me at last as long as your Prada shoes. The pair i just got rid of I had for 9 years, wore them 4 or 5 days a week, and they were from Wal Mart.
