Thanked: 0Yes! SCUBA!
Oh man, skydiving and SCUBA. I was obscenely lucky this past summer to get a high-paying internship (I'm a computer science student), and now I'm methodically blowing all my money on skydiving and SCUBA. Oh well, a few years down the road I'll have frickin' awesome memories, a closet-full of nice equipment, and a chronically bullemic wallet. Fortunately, my razor hobby is becoming relatively low cost for me (that is, I'm not buying more than I already have), as I'm not prone to collecting things.

i used to do some skydiving a while back before i joined the army (now i only do the airborne jumps). the highest i ever jumped in the civilian world was about 19000 feet. i will have to agree it is one of the most intense things to ever do, although i still have to try base jumping and hang gliding. i think hang gliding would be awesome. and gotta go scuba diving as well

What? Jump out of a plane when it in the air? You all must be crazy. next thing you know you will be doing something really dangerous like shaving with a straight razor.

i had about 170 jumps before kids, etc... made me hang up the wings. it's definitely something folks should try if at all interested.

Thanked: 5That was another feeling I had when i did my first and only jump. When I was in the service, they used to say about the airborne guys, "They're crazy, they jump out of perfectly good airplanes." That really hit home when I did my jump. There were about half a dozen people jumping before my instructor and me. I watched them all get up and just walk out the door. I couldn't get over the fact that they were so nonchalantly just walking out the door of an airplane 13,000 feet up in the air. It seemed somewhat comical at the time and when i look back on it, it still does. You just see people sitting in an airplane and then calmly get up and walk out the door. Or at least that's what it looked like at the time.

Sky diving and scuba diving – two sports where “out of air” can extract a severe penalty.

In 1999 I visited South Africa for vacation. I joined the Cape Town Parachute Club, followed a two day sky-diving course and did several static line jumps.
After returning home I continued sky-diving for a year. I made about 55 jumps including free fall.
And that was enough. But I still consider it one of the best things I did. Getting out of your comfort zone provides you with the best experiences in life.
