I like Makers Mark, Wild Turkey Kentucky Sprit, and have recently stumbled on to Fighting ****. I don't care for Beam. I do like Knob Creek coming from Beam Distilery.

How do you like yours? Mine, over cracke ice in one of those glass jars armor dried beef came in with the little stars around the top.

Favorite Bourbon. Also good and cheap. Around $20.

Are we talking just liquor? If the thread was to extend to beer as well, I would chime in that here in Rochester I can get a pack of twelve Yueng Ling Black & Tan's in bottles for $9.99. I think, as far as beer per dollar, it doesn't get much better than that.

Yuengling beers are very consistent. Not surprisingly for the oldest brewery in the USA. I do not particularly care for black and tan but it is certainly a good combination of beers. Being in Rochester NY, you should be able to find one of the best examples of Cream Ale, Genesee, at a reasonable price. A great beer if you like Cream Ale. Cream Ale is one of the 2 only beer styles that originated in the USA. I personally cannot tolerate sulphur very well so Cream Ale is not for me. You can probably find beers from Ommegang (Cooperstown) and Saranac (Utica). Ommegang makes great beers and Saranac beers are not typically expensive.

    Not really a Bourbon guy.

Bushmills whiskey is about the same price than Jack Daniel's around here. Tastes great.

(I just don't know what they were thinking when they named their darker one "Black Bush")

Genny Cream Ale is pretty good, and yes, it is dirt cheap. My usual bar always has it on special for $2 a bottle, but I don't think I've ever seen it offered in bottles at Wegmans.

Ommegang is also around, and while I agree that it is quite good, it is definately not cheap. Same goes for Saranac, though Saranac is priced as any decent beer would be.

Bushmills is quite good indeed. I first had it at my local bar, where it was offered at $2.50 per nip.

Wow, a lot more replies than I would have thought!

I like Bushmills too, for an irish whiskey.

I haven't really found ANY "Cheap but good" beer out there... It's usually a you get what you pay for situation, unless you get friendly with your local bartender.

I do like drinking ice cold Keystone Light in the summer though *ducks*

Modelo Especial is actually a great Mexican beer, and cheap, at least here in San Francisco. $12 for a 12-pack. It's also excellent ice cold on a hot day. I'd drink it before most of the: Bud, Corona, Keystone, Miller, etc.

I still have a bunch of bottles of Genesee Cream Ale in my cellar that a friend of mine from Rochester bought them for me awhile ago. Perhaps you need to find another package goods store... ;-). Actually, if memory serves me right, in NY you can buy beer at gas stations, good for you ;-). Around here, until very recently, you could not buy alcohol on sundays... :-(

I can buy a 12 variety pack for around $10 And to think that we call this expensive... Sorry that Saranac beers are higher in price around Rochester, I thought that they would be cheaper. Check out an old review from Jacobob10 at Beeradvocate.com:

And besides Unbruoe (maybe Victory Golden Monkey), I do not know of other breweries that sell Belgian style beers with the quality of Ommegang for about $5 to 6 a bottle (750ml). Not even Duvel which in my humble opinion is not as good, even though it is a real Belgian. Perhaps you cannot buy Ommegang beers at these prices where you live ;-). If that is the case, my bad.

I like a good rum but try to keep it under $50. Also like premium Tequila.
