    Default Wynton Marsalis

I took my 12 year old trumpet playing daughter to see Wynton Marsalis tonight. After the show, he talked with her for awhile. He told her to never forget that "a breath is a thought". He had her play a little for him. He was a wonderful and warm man.

How great is that! A great experience to have with your daughter, and certainly an experience she'll remember forever. Very cool.

He also certainly seems to be an exemplary role model. Sadly you certainly can't say that about most celebrities, famous athletes, etc.

    WOW! How cool is that!!

An absolutely awesome musician - but to take time with your kid. That's great. It's an experience that she'll never forget, but as a new father speaking to another father, I'm sure that you must have been so happy to provide that experience for her. You want to give your kid everything and moments like that are better than any Livi razor or Tony Miller strop could ever be.

You have a beautiful daughter, congrats.

That is very nice. Wynton apparently has as much class off stage as on and that is a lot of class. He has already earned his spot in the jazz pantheon if he never plays another note. As Chris said, your daughter will tell her grand kids about that day.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yeah, she was blown away by him. She said she didn't expect him to be so nice, or so deep! She even asked me to spray some clear coat over the autograph on her horn.

That's a class act. What a cool guy. That's one of the coolest things about jazz to me- even the superstars are relatively approachable compared with other genres.

...and a very cool dad as well

Thanks for sharing this Doc! Must have been a thrill for your daughter, and you. Love his classical music.
