I just got back from the liquor store. Having finished my bottle of Old Pulteney last night, I was out of whisky. I went over to my regular place, which has a nice selection and happens to be quite close by.

I was browsing the Irish and Scottish section and I was having a bit of trouble deciding. I've been on a Scotch kick recently (last three bottles), and I've really been enjoying them. But, when I visited my brother last weekend, he shared his twelve year Jamey with me, and that was quite nice too. After staring at the shelves for a few minutes, a little orange sign (discount) caught my eye. Bushmills Black was marked down. I'd heard a bit about it and it's been on my list to try; the discount sealed the deal.

I brought her home and was too tempted to have a taste to put her away. I poured out just a little bit (neat; there wasn't enough it my glass to risk adding water) and sat down to enjoy. I have to say, this stuff is really good. I'm no expert, so I won't attempt anything like a serious review. What I will say is this. It's a bit sharper initially, but still a bit complex, and it has a rather long and mellow finish with what tastes to me like toffee and coffee. I really like it.
