Serial Hobbyists
It is no surprise to me how many of us enjoy the same things. What other "hobbys" do you, or have you enjoyed with the intensity that you have for shaving (I think its safe to say we are intensly interested in shaving)?
My past and present interests are/have been (mostly present tense):
rock climbing/mountaineering/ice climbing
speelunking before that
bicycles..riding, racing, bikes, repair/maintenance, spectator
photography
bonsai styling, maintenance
watches (took an online watch repair course once but wouldnt attempt on my own)
fly fishing, fly tying, reading,
white water rafting (lucky enough to have take 3 private permit trips down the Grand Canyon)
swimming (mostly as spectator; kids swam..older son lost to M Phelps lots of times!)
windsurfing (and honestly, was bit by a shark once...made local headlines).
fountain pens
all-grain brewing
I hope this post doesnt come across as being boastful. Very honestly, I do a lot, but at a mediocre level. Very greatful for the the experiences, and very envious of the folks who do these things well. Not sure what about me has kept me from sticking to one thing and going deep with it. Well, perhaps my job...a lawyer for 31 years at the same firm (any of you at one job for a long time...not common these days)! I do ok at that ... but I'll take a day on a stream over kissing a judge's ass anyday (unless any judges I know are reading this, in which case bend over).
Best to all. Oh, Who's watching Wimbleton...Tour de France?Last edited by jleeg; 07-05-2009 at 03:23 PM.

Thanked: 488My wife would probably agree about my having to many hobbies:-) Besides razors I am into guns in a pretty big way. I have a large blog at Gunner’s Journal
I enjoy photography and working on computers. Whatever I get into I do it in a big way.

I actually have dabbled in all the same hobbies as you have with the exception of watches, fountain pens and brewing.
You can add to my list paintball and competitive pistol shooting and working on old cars.
I just grew up that way, my dad was always trying some new hobbie and I was always along for the ride. The funny thing was I have always enjoyed the gear aspect of all the hobbies. I have always been the guy to have the nicest cleanest and most organized gear.

Ack where to begin...
Specialty handgun hunting and long range target
Many forms of Black Powder firearms
Tactical Shotguns
Cooking
Brewing
Kitchen knives, vintage and Japanese traditional
Coin collecting, focused on Seated Liberty coinage
Stamp collecting, focused on fish and reptile stamps
Cookbooks
Reptiles
Aquariums
Bicycling, touring
ect....
Oh I can't even keep track of all the hobbies and such I have followed over the years, many on the back burner as it is hard to find others in the area with similar interests. Or shops that are willing to deal with specialists in a very focused field... I tend to get very focused in my hobbies and soon outgrow local shops ability to cater to or put up with
So as I move to new areas, I look around and see what local shops are open to the interests of us specialists. I pull out that hobby from the back burner and start it up again. Keeps me from getting bored or learning to much to fast and going numb

Photography (first B&W film, now digital)
Biking (pretty much XC riding; used to work at a shop, work on my own bike)
Computers (building, overclocking, gaming, and I run a private file server)
Drumming (taught myself to play a set)
Music (I'd consider listening to music a hobby)
Teaching (until I get hired and start getting paid, I'd still call it a hobby)
