Self Portrait
I had an assignment in one of my classes to create a self portrait. I won't go into the details of the assignment, but I do want to say that, while I am very happy with the content and composure of the photo, I am less that thrilled with the soft focus and level of CCD noise. I had to shoot at a pretty low shutter speed and high ISO equivalence because I was too lazy to get out my tripod or use artificial lighting. This is a picture to meet an assignment, not a photograph as a work of art.
Anyway, I wanted to share it because it contains many of the fine things in life that I enjoy.

Nice stripes, love the addition of any vest to a suit. Samuelson, Brooks Brothers or Jos. A. Bank?

Thanks, guys.
I actually have no idea who made the vest; I would have to look. It is part of a three piece suit, but I wear only the pants and vest whenever I can get away with it. I'm not a fan of jackets in general, but I love wearing a vest (formal occasions only, none of that vest and jeans nonsense for me).

I've become more interested in vests myself. Not much of a suit kind of guy though. I'm always looking for a vest that fits my "unkempt" style... is that a style? Bah I never conformed to any style who am I kidding... anyway I think it started when my father gave me his old pocket watch, heavy gold housed elgin (sp).
I have been a t-shirt and jeans person for 45 years and at times I really want to break out of it (just don't want to admit I've grown up). Your picture there must have been a fun assignment. Keep it up

I don't own a suit or a tie, haven't in more than 25 years but the razor, hone, pipe and the Lagavulin 16 are all things that would fit in a self portrait if I were to do one. Nice photo and great idea for your assignment.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That's a good thing on the vest and jeans, I had a few teachers/professors who tried that look and with the chalk stains, it's just painful!
The pipe should come in handy as they generally stick the Physics guys in the basement, sometimes for fun, sometimes for safety purposes (see: experiments) The pipe should allow you to overcome the mold smell stemming from the location of your office (see: basement)
The Scotch should provide comfort after the first test you give and some of the students respond to the questions with DUDE! The lighter may function in a dual purpose role there as well!

Dwarven: I think there are casual vests that can work with a more casual style, but not "suit" type vests. They are out there and can work; I didn't mean my comment to be a blanket statement.
Jimmy: All my friends say I'm like an old man ;-p I don't get really dressed up often, but when I do I like to do it right.
Joe: Funny that you've picked up on the physics thing; I used to sit at my table, leaned back with my feet up, pipe in mouth with a glass at my side and grade papers. Unfortunately, since I'll be teaching high school, there is no way I'll be able to get away with the pipe or bottle in my school office (legal issues...). Oh well, I can still do fun experiments.
Mc: I couldn't afford it either. The Lagavulin 16 was a gift. I try not to spend more than $40 or maybe $50 per bottle, and I make up for the expenditures by not going out to the bar nearly as much as I used to (used to go to my regular bar at least once a week).
