I haven't played much in the past couple years, but you guys are making me nostalgic! Here's a pic of my old friend who has since moved on to another home:

House of the Risin' Sun is a great song. Back in the '60s everyone who owned a guitar played it. It's a great practice song for learning finger picking. Interesting history to the modern version. The Animals stole the arrangement from Dylan who stole it from Dave van Ronk. Leadbelly did a very different version and other songs such as "When I Was a Young Girl" which Odetta did and " Streets of Loredo" have been linked to a common origin.

My girlfriend just bought me an Ibanez 7 string RG for finishing my exams!! Man, I love her so much..!
Pictures to follow soon!
Anyone else out there use a 7 string? I've been using it the last couple of days and you can get some really heavy riffs and cool chord sounds out of that extra low string!

Thanked: 3I have been playing guitar since 1968, off and on along with the drums and trumpet, which I still have an affinity for. I am posting the Custom Shop Fender Stratocasters I have which are the Violet '97 Robert Cray hardtail, 2 '60 Relics in Sea Foam Green and 3 tone sunburst and the candy apple red Eric Johnson.

Thanked: 4played a lot as a kid...
I played a lot as a kid but then put it down for about 20 years. somehow just got busy with college then career and whatnot. Then a few years ago I picked it up again and thought it would be fun to do some writing and set up a little home recording rig. Fun stuff with lots to learn. I got about a year into it and just ran out of time. I still have my recording rig and about a half-dozen half-written, half recorded songs. I learned a lot about recording a mixing in that time. Here's a link to a couple things I wrote recorded.
SoundClick artist: Charlie Miller - page with MP3 music downloads
I performed everything on there (but drums are midi so ...that bit doesn't quite count). Happy enough with it... of course it could all be improved upon especially the singing.
"Alive" was my first recording and first song I wrote; the other one was my second and, at least to my ear, you can hear a bit of progress in writing, recording and mixing between the two. Would love to get to number 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... because I figure they'd steadily improve, but will get back to that I suppose once the boy is raised and other responsibilities taken care of. By that time I may be too old to give a damn about rock-n-roll, but I doubt that. I think you want to express yourself at any age....Last edited by Charllie; 10-07-2009 at 05:09 AM.

Never leant properly, just twang around in a blues style - bit Hendrixy I guess.
Have a Marshall valvestate 80 watt and a Marshall practice amp. Crybaby pedal and that's about all.
Guitars are, an Encore electro-acoustic, an Epiphone strat and the following wee beastie...
1986 Kramer Baretta. Seen the new ones advertised and always have a warm glow when I read about them knowing I've got an original 'vintage' one.

Do Basses Count? I played locally in bands for about 10 years. For 7 years straight almost every weekend. Clubs, weddings etc. Had a nice customized Fender Precision with a Jazz Bass pickup added. It was stolen though. Picked up the B.C. Rich in the picture used as it was all I could afford at the time. Here I am on the right about 20 years ago.
