Thanked: 0The 25-06 is a fine, light recoiling cartridge. I think a lot of people choose the .243 Winchester and .270 Winchester instead, but the .25-06 is a very capable, flat shooting cartridge.
I personally have long drooled over the .257 Weatherby and have kicked myself for passing up a Lazermark with oak leaf engraving in that caliber many times. It is like a death ray.

I've heard that they trash a lot of land. A friend that lives in Arizona goes out there just to hunt hogs. He persuaded me over a period of time to buy a .460 Mag. Thats what he used on Florida hogs. Being that I like wheel guns, I bought one. It'll shoot 3 different rounds, .460, .454 and .45 LC, an additional selling point. Unrealistic for where I live and extreme overkill as black bear medicine. But its a lot of fun to shoot and i'm ready incase there's ever a stampede in the neighborhood.

Thanked: 0I like the .270 and it was my choice for most things. However, I had a .308 for a hog buster. At the distances hogs are shot it is fine and I could use heavier bullets to go through that hard gristle.
@outback that .257 Roberts is a fine choice and I like that rifle.

I love my Savage 111 .270. It's a great shooting gun and dead on accurate. This was my first shot at the range from 100yds. That's electrical tape on cardboard.
We went to sight in the scope as it was a brand new gun with a brand new scope that was only bore sighted. We drove down and saw that shot and said......why would I change that?
On that 25-06, I know they are nothing alike but a gun and a round I also love are my Winchester Model 92 in 25-20. I had always wanted a lever action cowboy gun and a friend was selling it so I jumped...fast with both feet. As I say, I love it but I don't love the price or availability of the rounds. I sort of wish I had waited and bought a 32-20. But the 25-20 is a great shooting, low recoil round with plenty of umph.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 09-09-2023 at 03:33 AM.

Nice shooting! I’ve never thought about electrical tape, good idea. I got tired of buying targets and started using beer bottle caps. Never a shortage of those..
Cold bore shots @100. Off sandbags and rear squeeze bag. 64gn Berger FB Varmint over Varget and Lapua brass. Shot out of a Seekins Precision .223 Wylde, tuned gas block, LaRue rings and Vortex Razor Light Hunter.
Said rifle. Impressed with their stuff, outstanding machine work, very clean. Runs circles around my LMT 7.62.

Well since it is show and tell hour here are the 2 aforementioned rifles.
1 Winchester Model 92 25-20, made circa 1921 if I recall correctly
1 Savage Model 111 .270, no frills BSA 3-9 scope (sorry don't really know much about scopes. First one I ever had. I have always used iron sights) both bought new in 2010.

Thanked: 227Went to pick up some new stuff this morning.
A hatsan escort, for shooting practical shotgun courses and a pietta made Remington 1858 in .44.
Looking forward to getting them out, but it might be a wait for the pietta as it's near impossible to get percussion caps right now. Or primers for that matter.
