I have never done a Turkey shoot but have shot lots of archery competitions.

If you ever think that you are an expert go to a major event and you will get put in your place really quick!

Competitions will put you back into reality quick. There is a 19yo kids by me who won the county match by placing 9out of 10 in the black at 600 yards without a scope on a 308! No one else came close to his abilities. That would be tough with a scope.

Not with 19yr old eyes! 47yr old eyes, however....that's a different story!

Regardless of young eyes you still have to be able to dope the wind and know your bullet drop at 600 yards plus have a consistent hold shot to shot. That 19 year old had a lot of skill. The 308/7.62 Nato is perfectly capable of 1000 yard shots in the right hands.

It was a joke!!! As I've said before on here, I shot 1K comp back in the early 90's.

I was not referring to your post. I should have quoted Paul76 to have avoided any confusion. I drop in occasionally in this thread so I must have missed you saying you have shot 1K matches back when. I was into DCRA shooting not too many years before you were shooting 1K.

At 19 I had theyes for it just not the skills. 1 maybe 2 out of ten at 150 was a great day for me. That kids mom was a skilled Mark’s woman with a rifle doing comps in the military and his father was doing military comps with a pistol. So part is in his genes and he definitely had good teachers.

I'm considering a single barrel shotgun. Assuming I can find somewhere local where I can shoot single barrel DTL. Mostly for the challenge

So I found a clay ground that is happy for me to shoot single barrel DTL. So today I went to purchase a shotgun I had my eye on.

There were actually 2. One for £40 and an older less attractive one for £25, the wife budgeted me to £40 the price of the higher one. I liked both so the guy at the shop offered me both for £50.
