    Default Claw foot bath tubs

Nothing quite like a good soak in an deep cast iron claw foot bath tub. A friend who collects antiques and restores antique houses just gave this to my father in law. What a gift! These things are awesome.

This tub was made in the USA by Standard on Apr. 5 of 1920, how cool.

When we picked it up, we found that the interior enamel is absolutely perfect. There was some rusting on the underside along with some aggressive pitting. So we got out the power tools with some nasty wire wheels and a belt sander and we smoothed things out and killed the rust.

Next, after a good degreasing and some drying time, I primed the tub...

then applied a coat of rust resistant white enamel paint.

Anyway, here are some pics... I didn't think to start documenting until after I primed it, but what the heck... you get the idea.

Man, you are going to love that tub.
Being a tall/big guy, who loves his baths, those tubs are pure heaven.

Very nice! I've soaked in 'em but never moved one - they must weigh a ton.

As some of you guys know I have a small ranch in the Nth Idaho foothills, were talking Log home in the middle of nowhere... I can tell you right now if there had not been a huge, deep, claw foot tub, in "her" bathroom I probably would still be living in Suburbia
So in my eyes they are worth their considerable weight in gold....

The installation is going to be pretty soon. We are actually renovating the bathroom that this is going into (very minor, just converting a shower only into a clawfoot... a little sheetrock and some flooring... walk in the park). Right now I have just finished priming and enameling the claw feet that never made it into the pictures yet. Anywho, installation will happen in the next few weeks.

And yes it was very heavy to move... it is like a bomb shelter for soaking.

That looks like a nice tub. I plan on having mine resurfaced someday, I just can't justify bringing a replacement up the stairs. Of possible interest, I had made a shower curtain/goose neck from stainless steel while working in a custom shop. I wish I had instructed my daughter that the curtain goes inside the tub before she first used it. Next project, a new living room ceiling and repairs in the dining room.

I remember the tsunamis I used to make when I was a kid trying to capsize the toy boats, dad wasnt too happy!
Man, those things held like a hundred gallons of water!
