Thanked: 8Horses
Any one in this forum own horses? If so what types do you own? Do you pleasure ride or show? Let me know. It is one of my loves. We own a beautiful gray Quarter horse. Her name is Photon Leather -N- Lace (Mindy for short). She is absolutely gorgeous (but I am biased). She is somewhat spirited, but rides nice and smooth.

G'day there, am just on for a moment, about to head off for the Boddington rodeo. I am a team roper, heeling just at the moment but head as well, horse permittin g. We have an old Appy, Patches my first roping horse, head and heel off him, and my pard used to barrel race him occasionally. The horse I am taking down today is my new heeling horse Toby, he is a thoroughbred Appy cross, but mostly the former he is a pretty solid bay colour. We also have three miniatures, stallion and mare and one colt. We no longer breed the mare and she just hangs around the garden. We have a few acres about 40 minutes east of Perth, Western Australia.
I have only seen one other chap with horses in the forums, young bloke from the mid west of the US I think
Cheers.

Don't seem to be many other horse types in this club. Had no luck at the rodeo, both headers missed, they will starve you !!!! We are about to go away for a few days, when we get back my wife and I will do a little trail riding locally before I go back to work. Have had to wait for an abcessed foot to heal up. What sort of area do you ride in ?
The pleasure riding keeps the roping horses fresh and we live in quite a pleasant area. Can even ride to the local pub for a drink and lunch. PM a picture of your horse and gear if you like.
Kind regardsKeep yo hoss well shod an yo powdah dry !

I used to ride a horse patrol at the prison I worked at and developed quite a passion for the noble critters.I seemed to have a natural aptitude for it.Bought a Palamino quarter horse (Cricket) and adopted a standardbred retired trotter who could be saddle ridden to keep her company. My wife and I had a great time riding the woods and fields around our country home(but it was a lot of work and I didn't mind it a bit). One day the palamino mare got sick and long story short my beautiful Cricket died. The gelding ran around whinnying for her and like to broke my heart even more,so I had to find him a new home with other horses.I missed them greatly, but at that time my children were growing up and I never did get another horse.

I'm in the cold part of the northeast and we just use the snowmobile trails in the non-snow months.

Thanked: 8I wish I could just ride her to the pub, My life would be perfect then. We live in the city. There is a 40 acre equestrian park 2 blocks from where I board her at. I don't get much chance to ride during the week. Usually on the weekends I go and ride. She is recovering from laminitis, (in June) and I got the okay from the vet to walk her. He says in a couple of months I can trot and canter her. She is great though. I will send a pic. Just as soon I figure out how to post pics. I will sometimes just ride her on the road too. She doesn't spook easily. We have had our share of guys who honk to try to spook her and she is pretty good. The only thing she does not like for whatever reason is motorcycles. She will get spooky with them, but I can still control her.

Razorgal,
most of the drivers in our area are horse broke, we do have a few teenagers that are not too considerate, but the local plods have just about got them sorted.
Our local pub has been closed for the last couple of years but is about to reopen. I actually put a hitching rail in the pub carpark a few years ago. If the new people are any good and the pub takes off again, I will see if they might supply the fencing and I will build a small yard and put in a trough. We can get up to half a dozen local cowboys together on occasion. Gives the bikers that used to frequent the pub on the odd weekend a bit of a hurry up when we clank in." Don't worry you lot, I said last time, we are just a 19th century version of you all !! Do post a picture of your horse when you get it figured. Piture of my wife Wendy on my old roping horse Patches, self on Toby in front of the other cottage on our place. We both ride in custom built slick fork saddles
CheersKeep yo hoss well shod an yo powdah dry !

I dont own horses but I do ride. My girlfriend is a mad keen equestrian and she got me into it..!
We usually do a mix of things, from jumps to hacking depending on what we feel like. Theres a great stables out near my parents and we go there a load.
I've come on a lot this year. Back in January all I could do was walk and not fall off..!Now I can jump and do all sorts of fun stuff..!
Pictured is me riding the horse I usually ride, Rusty. He's a good horse, but you do have to work him! Because he's a riding school horse he's very well educated and if you dont work him he'll cut corners and generally do as little as possible..!
I do enjoy it though, and I'm looking forward to a few rides over the Christmas break!
