Looks like I might be alone here, but I'm an A.T. Cross fan. I have a pair of ATX fountain pens (one piston, one cartridge) that I like very well. Their entry-level pens are right in the price range you describe.

Rotring 600 is the great pen, all metal and durable.

They are nice pens though. I have "a few" myself.
Actually, the Pelikan Pura is a cartridge pen, costs $85 from Colorado Pen Compay, and is a great pen to boot.

I have Parker 51 and Rotring Newton 600 fountain pens. Both are ok, write very nicely. Rotring is very reliable and strong like German Panzer.

the Pilot Vanishing Point is one of the best pens for the money, but just outside your price range.

The best mid-level cartridge pens in my mind are the Shaeffer Javelin (excellent nib) and the Lamy Vista or AlStar (metal vista). for 80 bucks you could get one of each.

also, do yourself a favor and get a converter, that way you won't need to keep buying cartridges. I exclusively use Noodler's Bulletproof ink, and it's wonderful in both of those pens.

    Default Fountain Pen

    Gentlemen,

I assume it is agreed that no writing tool matches the grace and elegance of a fountain pen. And for me, black ink.

Also for me, no fountain pen comes anywhere near the majesty of the Pelikan. I began using a fountain pen when a little boy. It was a Pelikan. Many years later, I own several, and love them all as I did my first. I think it is the best pen made.

So now what to buy within the price range given in the initial post in this thread? Pelikans come with piston fillers, as another gentleman has noted, and at a higher price. My thought on the subject, therefore, is this:

If possible, why not up the price and buy a Pelikan?

    Regards,

    Obie
