SR-CMT,
I have never tried it, but there is a blend from Pipeworks and Wilke called Wilke Churchill. It may be what you are looking for.
Here is the description:
WILKE CHURCHILL
Churchill, the man fancied his cigars. Mr. Churchill would have been pleased with the liberal amount of vintage cigar leaf that has been added to this traditional English mixture. A robust tobacco, and a special treat.
4oz. 13.75 8oz. 26.00 16oz. 50.00
Pipeworks & Wilke; Custom Blended Tobaccos
Cheers!
David

GL Pease Robusto is quite good and is a blend of Virginias, Cyprian Latakia and Maduro cigar leaf. My advice to a beginning pipe smoker would be don't smoke. Just forget it. Having said that, if you're going to smoke a pipe the previous posters all gave some good advice based on my nearly 30 years of chain smoking the noxious weed in briars and an occasional cob. Smoking some Robusto in an old Comoy Blue Riband as I type my latest drivel.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If you find a local shop that does pipes and cigars, they will likely have at least one house blend that has some sort of cigar tobacco in it. Personally, I like pipes because they are different from cigars - when I want a cigar I have a cigar ;-p

hiya, I'm 16 and have always disliked the idea of smoking, I have no problem with others smoking but when it came to me I've never tried. But, there seems to be more to a pipe and I don't quite know what it is, do you think I should get one and try it or forget the whole thing? thanks for your replies

Thanked: 1As many people pointed out, corn cobs are the best way to start out. If you dont like it, then you are only out a few bucks. Also, most places that have bulk pipe tobacco will let you try them out(provided you have a pipe) before you buy them. That will help you find out what kinds you like.
Blastbar- I hate cigarette smoke. I'm not sure the legal age of smoking in the UK. I wouldnt encourage people to smoke, BUT if one was going to be inclined to smoke, I would tell them to try out a pipe. For me its a relaxatoin thing. I can reflect upon my day, hang out with others to unwind, and enjoy a good bowl of pipe toback.
In my opinion, pipe tobacco comes in a more variety of flavors than cigars. It could be just me, but most cigars taste alike, and leave an afterflavor that I just dont like. I wonder if that is any correlation from when I switched to non aromatic pipe tobacco, since that was the time I started not liking cigars.

i think personaly alot of people get pipe snobish. i had and still have a couple gabrows and they are all good smokers. i like having a filter in my pipe but thats my preferance. but i make a mild english blend with a couple pinchs of either cherry or hazzlenut. the ole lady really likes the smell they add to the smoke she says its nicely aromatic and almost like a potpori.

AZrider: that's exactly how I break in pipes--nothing terribly tricky & it works great!
Another great blend to try is Escudo. It's a Va-Per (virginia perique) blend that comes in a round tin in little medallions. Just slightly rub out 1 or 2 & smoke away. Smokes quite cool for a VaPer & the room note is amazing--you could actually smoke this indoors and probably no one would complain. Great taste too. You can really taste (and feel!) the perique toward the end.
