I personally like Tanqueray 10, it makes for a nice gin n tonic.

I generally stick with Tanqueray and soda with a wedge of lime,
but if I'm out, a Hendrick's martini with cucumber is just great.

Lately I've been a fan of Boodles Gin. It's remarkably smooth and full-flavored for the price. I even prefer it to the much more expensive Sapphire, (which burns like gasoline if served neat).

I used to swear by tanqueray 10, but after a recent trip to Oregon, where I ordered a gin and tonic with tanq 10 and was laughed at by the server, I have realized the true heights gin is capable of reaching. I had the pleasure of tasting some delicious micro distillery gins such as "Ransom" and "Small's" gin which I'm actually fond of drinking on the rocks or with a splash of water like a singe malt scotch. It is almost a shame to mix these beautiful drinks with tonic or lime, but when you do, it certainly makes the best G and T's you've ever had. These small batch gins have incredible aroma and fresh flavor with herbs and spice that you normally wouldn't find in a traditional english gin. My bottle of Tanqueray 10 is collecting dust on the shelf, I'm not sure I can go back now.
If any of you are in Portland, Oregon check out Pearl Liquors and ask about some of the local oregon gin, I can't believe you'd be disappointed.

Another Hendrick's fan here!
I like it on hot summer days over ice with a cucumber and maybe a dash of angostura.
Perks you right up.

I couldn't vote because I have only drank gin once. When I was about 11 or 12 I overheard a women say that gin drinkers were the "worst." This poisoned my mind towards gin. In my teenage drinking years it was beer and whisky until I read an article on movie star Lee Marvin. The article said that he poured a shot of gin into a beer and drank it.
I was 15 in New Orleans where the drinking age was 18 at the time. I was big for my age and frequently was able to get served without ID. So I was in a bar called "The Music Box" on Canal St. and had three or four draft beers with a shot of gin poured in. Rip roaring drunk is the only way I can describe the results adequately. The hangover was a night to remember even 45 years later.
I have decided to buy a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and some tonic and give the gin a try since reading threads on the topic. Here is another gin thread from the archives and one more here if y'all are thirsting for more.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
