I'll try to balance it out for those who don't enjoy the finer things
the booze: , jack single barrel, johnny walker green, and a nice heff
the guns: I don't have enough room on this page to list them all .. (and I live in CA ) I know I'm a rare breed !
vehicle: toyota prerunner , harley davidson ( I thought I would add motorcycles)
knives : not on your list , again not enough space on this page to list them all .
cigars : only on special occasions , hunting trips , camping , BBQ, or any time the boys and I get together
and of course RAZORS!!!! every aspect, collecting , shaving, restoring, honing
the list goes on ... "razor" mike

I really liked the smell inside a newly empty cigar box when I was a kid, but the few times I tried smoking cigars, I just didn't like it.

Some years ago I bought a decent espresso machine and got pretty good at making espresso and cappuccino, but my heart and my taste buds belong to coffee I brew a cup at a time in a French press, with beans I buy from these guys that I grind in a burr grinder just before brewing. They roast the best beans I've ever tasted, but I might just change my mind if I ever get into roasting my own. (smile)

When I think whiskey, I think Kentucky sour mash. And that's Jack Daniels.

I don't own any firearms, but I will fight to my dying breath your right to bear arms to protect your family and to hunt. Count on it.

Had to give up riding a motorcycle 20 years ago when I developed vertigo and subsequently lost my vestibular function. But man, that always felt like I was flying an F-16. One of these days I'm going to get a 4WD so I can go get stuck in places other people can't even go. Cannot understand someone who lives where it never snows buying a 4WD but never taking it off road. But then again, there are guys who collect straight razors but will only ever shave with a Mach 3. Go figger. <grin>

Other hobbies? I don't know if this counts as a hobby, but I love to get out in the woods any chance I get, even if just for a few hours. There's something spiritual about just being there, connecting with Earth energy. It just lifts me up higher and higher, like the old growth trees reaching for the heavens. I'm sure the hunters among us know what I'm talking about. You'll never find that feeling anywhere else and MAN is it powerful!
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-

    Ordered.

You all have very interesting likes/dislikes. I agree with you, Morty, there is something special about being absolutely away from worldly things and just being with nature.

And razormike, you can't say you don't enjoy the finer things! Harley's definitely are a fine specimen of hand-crafted moto art.

You might be onto something. I've noticed I've become hobby prone ever since starting to shave with a straight: survivalist gear, cigars, imported beer, fountain pens, and most recently pipe smoking.

Now if only I could grow an awesome full beard instead of the thin hair on my baby face. :P

    Default Opposites attract

    Tim,

I've been married for 17 years. To answer your question:

The bad news: No, it doesn't.

The good news: That's what marriage is about - loving each other despite our idiosyncrasies and varied interests. It's taken about a month into this new straight razor adventure before my wife has actually engaged in some semblance of a conversation with me about it. When my second razor arrived she called me at work and said "Your thing arrived". Fast forward to yesterday when I showed her mbeem's 7/8 Henckels Friodur on page 14 of http://straightrazorpalace.com/shave...y-29th-14.html and her response was "Wow, that's beautiful".

I remind myself when my wife is talking non-stop about some new sewing craft she's discovered, box-pillow making class she's taking, or pottery class that's coming up - that is exactly how she feels while I'm talking about straight razors, my new scroll saw, or how many mph I averaged on my road bike.

Just my 2 cents worth. Your mileage may vary.

    Greg

I do happen to enjoy a good cigar, a nice pipe, and good whiskey. though.
I thought you were supposed to be 21 for those things.

Hate to correct you Morty, but Jack Daniels is Tennessee whiskey, not bourbon. If you want Kentucky Whiskey, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Knob Creek and those are what you are looking for. Sorry to be a stickler for details, but as a Kentuckian that lives about 20 minutes from Bardstown and the Jim Beam Distillery and Makers Mark Distillery we address that common misconception all the time. Anyhow, back to the real topic!
I am not a green weenie at all, and I drive a pickup truck. I absolutely love guns, which comes from long family traditions and being a Marine. I have plenty of guns, but I'll never have enough. Right now I am at a point where I need to buy another safe so I can buy more guns! It's a great spot to be in! I think it's all about being self sufficient. I am relatively handy, and I would rather do something myself than pay some Gump to fix it for me. I hunt everything and love wild game meat. Am I a health nut? Not really. I used to be in great shape, but getting older and having a family and a desk job has taken it's toll on my physical fitness. I used to like tobacco, but I kicked the fine Kodiak tobacco about a year ago. Cigars on special occasions only. I love bourbon whiskey, in particular Makers and Knob Creek. Also having good tools and incredibly sharp knives is a must for me.

    Default More on Jack

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'll add a little to Melvin's discourse. As a native Tennessean and an official "Tennessee Esquire" who owns a 1 square foot plot of land overlooking the Jack Daniel's Distillery, I can assure you that Old No. 7 is Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey and is made in Lynchburg, Tennessee. It is the oldest registered distillery in the U.S. and is situated in Moore County Tennessee, which happens to be a dry county.

When I found this site, and then found this sub forum, I found it interesting the similarities between all of us. My friends that have zero interest in straights also aren't the type to really slave over personal hobbies, and the opposite is also true. What other hobbies do you guys have that are also strangely shared by members of this forum? In other words, what are my hobbies that I didn't even know I had yet?

When I was younger: Fencing, Archery and Motorcycle riding.

So as a heads up, you may develop a sudden urge to grab a bow, sword and an iron horse.
