I don't roast at home yet, but I have heard about modifying a proctor-silex "popcorn pumper", which seems to get the job nicely done. There are alot of home roasters who have done it, so I'm sure there's a site somewhere dedicated to this modification.

I've also heard about the i-roast2, which is a little hot air roaster which you can program your roasting profiles. It sells for a bit less than 200$ I beleive.

glenn, go to sweet marias for information on converting the hot air popcorn popper, the donw side is that you can only do certain amounts, i like to do my batches 1lb at a time. either for home or work.

Also, the problem with many of these hot air roasters and conversions is they don't last very long. I started with a I roast and as I recall it lasted about 18 months.

i never used one of them, i have always liked to go oldschool when i roast, that is why i use the hand cranked pop corn popper, and i was usually able to be consistent that way, but i took some time off from roasting, due to money being tight, but now i believe its time to start again.

Mr. Looney, if I may call you that; Since you like roasting in larger amounts, have you seen the roasters used with BBQ rotisiere equipment?
There kind of round cages with winged agitators connected inside and used on the rotisiere of a BBQ pit.
Here's one type There's all different ways of rotating even regular grill motor.

Actually that looks like a drum roaster they use to roast chile with. The only problem I would see with using it with coffee is controling the temperature.
