Figured a little golf might be nice today. But I can't even start to tell you how uncomfortable in my skin I felt today!! Odd - it showed in my game - which was awful lol. I even hit a few sideways!! But I had this baby to give me solace lol.

I didn't think I liked this cigar at one time, but boy does it rest well!! That, or it was the only good thing going on which gave it the appearance of grandeur lol.

Either way, I settled down on the ninth after my Oval had given me all it had .

I had this Oliva G Serie maduro robusto this morning after my night shift. Very pleasant.

We mentioned how you can tell things from the ash before and this one was really flakey. What does does that tell me?

It tasted mainly of dark chocolate, coffee, chili and a bit of leather to me with some other flavours popping up every now and then. I got a hint of baked banana at one point just for a second and then later there was a moment of fried mushrooms which was quite surprising. The smell of the smoke rising from the tip was amazing. I remember being in a pub back in england before the smoking ban and there was an old guy in the corner with a nice cigar making the whole pub smell really good. It was that kind of smell, and a very good reason to allow smoking in pubs.

Pretty much this tells you that the filler is short leaf, not long leaf. It could also mean it wasn't constructed properly (too loose = very very easy draw), which comes with it's own set of issues; notably being it will burn to fast producing a hot smoke which affects the taste. With this one needs to keep an eye on the ash as the chances of it breaking off at inopportune moments is greater.

A long tight ash tells you the filler is long leaf, it is much more stable.

How did this stick smoke for you?

Had a Black Market from Alec Bradley this morning...this would be the third one I've tried in a year.

While I very much enjoy AB's offerings, I don't believe I'm a huge fan of their Black Market. I find it perplexing how an unlit stick can be so incredibly aromatic, yet fail to deliver??

The first one I tried was shortly after I bought it...blech.

I let the next one age for 6 months and noted an improvement...mildly.

This morning's offering was in my humi for a year. While it was better (from what I can recall in comparison), my socks weren't blown off...heck, the elastics didn't even fall down.

I don't believe these will find room in my humi anytime soon, there are much better sticks from AB...of course this is my opinion and that should be taken into consideration as YMMV.

There is no way a G was rolled with short filler. I'll go out on a limb and be categorical about that...

Oliva is way to good a brand to be using short filler.

If I were going to guess, I would say they are using Dominican filler from a unfertile soil? But I would be wrong. It has Nicaragua long-leaf filler.

All I know is you had a yummy cigar that was messy lol!! Its like eating tacos

Y'all know what a Padron 1964 looks like. I smoked one of 'em. It was old, had been badly kept (by someone very kind, I should say), the wrapper was cracked in a few places and it smoked flatter 'n' a pancake. Moral of the story? If you put 'em away, keep 'em managed.

The ash seemed pretty solid in the middle but the outside was flaking off like crazy. I was taking notes on my laptop and now the keyboards full of little ash flakes. It was mostly holding on pretty well, but I knocked it off because I was getting covered in it. It smoked pretty good as far as I could tell. If anything the draw was tighter than others I've smoked. I was aiming to smoke it right down, but it just wouldn't burn anymore when there was about an inch and a half left. It didn't seem to burn quite slow and a bit uneven, but I'd be willing to put that down to me lighting it poorly or not storing it very well. It's been in the humipouch it arrived in for about two weeks. It says it's supposed to be good for three months, but it's just a plastic bag with a damp thing in it really and I'm guessing it's no substitute for a real humidor.

I came up with an interesting (and probably quite horrible tasting) experiment that I'm going to try. I was enjoying the cigar and was a bit disappointed that I couldn't smoke it all the way down, so I cut off the burnt bit, sliced up the rest and rubbed it out like pipe tobacco. Each time I have a cigar I like I'm going to do the same with whatever's left over and make "Cigar Butt Blend". When I've got a jar full I'll try smoking it in my pipe to see what it's like. I'm not expecting good results as it's coated with tar and whatever else from having smoke pass though it for over an hour. So far it looks like ribbon cut pipe tobacco and smells revolting. I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of months.

Hmmm...pretty sure the resulting aroma wouldn't be far off from burnt dingleberry infested arse hair.

If you are seriously intent on this, let the cigar go out on it's own. Blow through it once it's out, this will help remove the stale smoke/gasses that are left. Cut off the burned portion so you are left with "fresh" tobacco, and for holy mackerel's sake, under any circumstances, do not, ever, put it back into your humidor (which I see you do not have).

This is pretty much the best way to try and salvage a cigar for later...however anything left for over an hour is worthy only of the trash bin.

It's 'funny' how a deep disgusting funk can develop so quickly from something that smelled so great not all that long ago.

If you are interested, there are instructions on the net for making a 'Coolidor'; best thing to do is save all the cedar wrappings/blocks from cigar tubes/boxes that you can to put inside with your sticks. Perhaps your local cigar monger would be willing to give you cedar?

I smoked this little Bait Fish when walking the dog. I had 2 of these, and this 1 has improved with a little age.

I was going to smoke this Alec Bradley Filthy Hooligan on St Paddy's Day, but never found the time... I will be lighting it up tomorrow.
