I actually had 4 today as it is still the weekend. Let’s see… the first was an Oliva G. For me, it makes a good morning smoke. Then there was a ’92 Rocky Patel. Next was a CAO Assassin. Not really sure how much of the Assassin I tasted since I was watching the Rays sweep the Twins… YAY GO RAYS!!! And then this evening I smoked a Gurkha Titan. Made for a nice evening.

My buddy gave me 7 or 8 Cubans, any idea how to tell what brands? No bands on them because he is paranoid lol.

Not really anyway to know what they are and, unfortunately, if they are. It’s not uncommon for people to take some of the lesser quality cigars and band them with fake bands. (I’m not suggesting that your buddy did, by the way.) Even given that they come from a reputable source, once the bands are off, there’s no telling what they are. If they’re on the darker side, say a maduro, a simple guess would be Punch or Montechristo. (sp?)
That said, it’s just like razors, if you like it, it doesn’t really matter what it is. IMHO, the only real reason for trying to get a cuban is simply to try it or as a status thing. I personally don’t worry about the status thing, but I do enjoy trying new cigars. If they are maduros and you like the full bodies, you might try the Padron 3000, the ‘26, and the ’66 series. There is also the Rocky Patel’s like the Decade and the Burn. I’m personally partial to the Burn. But I have to admit that part of that is that I own the first two commercial boxes that were sold. Box #1 was even hand numbered and signed by Rocky, Nimesh, and Nish.

Oh, and just to add to the daily count, I had an Oliva G, a Rocky Patel ’92 petite carona, and a Gurkha Titan.

Tonight a 1997 Partagas Lusitanias will be burnt slowly at my place. Looking forward to hours of fantastic Cuban flavor!
