I had a Gurkha Black dragon on Christmas. Silly name, but a great cigar. Lots of chocolate and coffee in a very creamy smoke.

Thanked: 2What cigar did you smoke today?
Another great thread. I haven't smoked much cigar lately as SWMBO is not a fan of smoke in the house but I do have a varied collection of cigars some very nice and pricey for that special occasion to some that I wouldn't give away. I had been buying them in bundles from cigar international which I started doing with a buddy while we were in Afghanistan. I have no problems with them you can find great deals in bundles like that and get some great cigars for quite a bit less than normal cost however when I have bought bundles sometimes I received some no name cigars that I was not happy with. But on the whole I have had some great smokes from Rocky Patel especially the Edge label. It is a larger ring cigar so prepare to sit down a bit. The come in a variety of wrappers so you can choose you flavor. I got two dark wrappers and two light to try out the taste and was pleased with both. I personally don't have a set preference in either and like a varied collection. Which is one way the bundles have helped me. If anyone has any suggestions of a good smoke I am definately all ears. I am always open to new ideas.
As far as humidors I have a 300 capacity Spanish cedar from quality importers trading company which I ordered from the same sight as above (again they had a deal. And you now how I like deals) it holds up very well and isn't bad to look at either.
Now that I have moved to Indy I have visited some tobacconists and during my last Marine Corps Birthday Ball I visited a nice place on monument circle that was very knowlageable and helped my buddy and I pick some nice cigars (that are still in my humidor as we were moving to much to actually smoke that night.) I am looking forward to going to the cigar bar here in Indy as soon as I get time.

Thanked: 94Ok so as some of you know by now I work at a tobacconist and smoking as many cigars as I do I pretty much always forget to update this page! my bad!! so to make up for it I will give you a run down of cigars that I have had since my last post feel free to skip the reading If you would like lol
OK first is a Cigar that is near and dear to my heart...the Illusione 88 Candela! Now I am generally a fan of full power HIGH vitamin N stogies with dark earthy tones and a touch of spice, but this stick is something else. The Candela is perfectly pulled off in this stick. I smoked the Robusto 5x52 which I clipped with my Xikar. The cigar is mild and flavorful yet packs more backbone then most other mild cigars (Jaime Garcia limited edition 2012 being one big exception, but I will get to that). The flavor of hay (in a good way) and honey are always present, but there is a bit of spice in the back ground and enough nicotine to really keep you interested. The burn was perfect and the ash was more than 90% white. This cigar pairs well with strong coffee, tea, or even in my case an IPA. If you have not tried one do yourself a favor and smoke one soon!
Next the Jaime Garcia Limited Edition 2012! This is a Connecticut shade wrapped 6.5x52 Power house of a stick. Yes thats right a Connecticut powerhouse! Doesnt even sound right saying it lol Dont let the strength fool you though this stick is full of delicious cream, spice, and a touch of sweetness that will keep you puffing even after you have sat down with the spins....ok maybe not that strong, but seriously its one strong stick. The wrapper on this cigar is flawless, no tooth on it and it feels like oily velvet on your lips. I wish this stick was their flagship instead of just a limited release, but at $15 a stick I would be broke very soon. This cigar craves to be smoked by someone with the time to enjoy its subtle complexity and with the stamina to hold up to its stout kick to the head. This is an Iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove.
Now on to the cigar I most wish I could afford to smoke daily...The Ghurka Beast 6.5x56 Maduro. I could sit here waxing poetic for hours about this cigar. This is also one of the only cigars that I feel lives up to a $20+ price tag. Its full of molasses, cocoa, earth tones and leather. When you light this bad boy be ready for flavor on top of flavor and set aside about 2 hours of your day
The LFD Digger Maduro....or as we call it in my shop "The Black Donkey D$#k of Death!" 8.5x60....yes thats right 8 and 1/2 inches of double ligero wrapped in an almost black maduro. Its veiny, oily and will beat you down with vitamin N and flavor for upwards of 3.5 hrs. Do not smoke this on an empty stomach. I love it....but I have to be in the right mindset for it. Not a cigar for the faint of heart or beginners.
Seriously I could go on for pages and pages so I think I will just stop and give you my thumbs up thumbs down on a few more cigars.
Thumbs up!
Cusano 59 rare cameroon. highly under rated. stellar flavor and construction
Padron 64 45 yr "little hammer"....nothing to be said just try one
Perdomo Grand Cru Maduro. Great value stick, probably the only one of Nick's cigars that has no construction issues.
Cuvee Blanc. great breakfast cigar, packed full of flavor.
Red Witch. new from Ghurka, good value stick. plenty of flavor, not much $$
LFD Double Claro. very sweet, light and delicious.
Skull breaker, Crystal Baller, Bone crusher and Tramp stamp. New kids in school, pulled off very well for a good price. start with the CB (lightest) and move to TS then BC and finally SB (strongest).
Oliva series V melanio. buy one today!!!!!
Thumbs Down:
Rocky Patel. Pick a cigar, any cigar...they all taste the same! thats not always bad, but he has been rushing "Green" sticks out and who wants to pay $9 for a stick that needs 3 months humidor time?
Perdomo 20th anniversary. the flavor is there, but construction flaws give this stick the kiss of death.
Diamond crown. at 15+ dollars a stick there are just so many other options that will be more satisfying.
Julius Caesar. see diamond crown.
CAO Left Coast. dont touch this turd. You have been warned.
La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor Reserva. I hate that this cigar was rushed out. being such a fan of the Red band line I truly was excited for this years release. what a pitty.
Cohiba. all of them. Just not what the used to be. Original Cuban version is great.
Anyway thats all the time I will take up of yours. Remember Palates differ and as with damn near everything YMMV!
