I don't smoke in public since I'd rather be in the comfort of my own backyard.
But I do wear quite a few hats people would consider different.
My favorites to wear are a Indy style fedora, as well a Greek fisherman cap.
I might get a look or two but one thing you should remember is that you are most likely never going to see them again. So why worry about what they think?
here is my theory on hats, i have my standard ball caps, which i wear pretty much constantly, and then i have one other had, kinda like a, oh i dont know what it is to be honest, but i usually have my 15 year old daughter with me, if she says it looks good, then its on,
As the others have stated, I don't worry about what someone else may think. From friends I get a little bit of flak, but not on the way I look, rather, we have a TV (animal) Vet that wears the same style of hat, so I usually cop the "How's Dr Harry today?!" jibes, but it is all in good fun. One of my female friends keeps trying to get away with wearing it (and keeping it) for herself.
You wear whatever you like mate, have a look in the mirror to see if it suits your face (or ask someone what they think) and go for it. I would look rather silly in a porkpie or bowler hat as they don't suit my face, but flatcaps, fedora's and many akubra styles suit me just fine.
I don't tend to smoke that much in public here, simply because, knowing my luck, I'll be booked for smoking in one of the many places it's frowned upon to smoke here, but I do light up at rest stops when I'm on the road, on my front (street facing) veranda and the occassional public place where I'm sure it is allowable (We have many bans and prohibitions in this, so called, free country).
The hat and the pipe seem to go well together and I will see if I can find a picture later, to put up, showing me with both.
