Jolly my Frosty Butt.....he was smokin somethin that weren't Tabaccy and that button nose was from too much drink which brought about the eyes of coal......dead cold coal eyes........hahahahahaha ! A quick Cob primer: When breaking in a new Cob, always smoke the first couple of bowls all the way down.This will insure good even smoking in future smokes. Don't know why this is, it just is and was passed onto me and so far seems to be true. I have had my four current Cobs over two years now and still going strong. A Cob can be burned out but it all depends on how hot of a smoker you are. treat'em like any other pipe. Dedicate you Cobs to tobacco of same characters i.e don't mix English and aromatics or your pipe will be icky tasting. Keep'em cleaned or they can sour just like any other pipe. A Cob generally smokes smooth from the start with virtually no break in. That's the beauty of a Cob and as stated already..if you smoke the first couple bowls all the way down, then they will usually light well on the first puff and stay lit reasonably well. I am know the proud owner of a straight cob, having taken the advice of Mr Nightblade and Mr NoseWarmer, My thanks to you both. I found a shop in Stratford upon Avon not to far from my home and the guy there was very good. He recommended a house blend that was smooth and mild to start with, and through in a pipe nail some pipe cleaners and filters for free, and I got a cheap pipe lighter. Had my first half bowl on the way home and all went well the tobacco was indeed smooth. The pipe lasted about 20 mins just right for me. I just sipped on the pipe nice and easy, no nicotine effects so it maybe fairly low in nicotine which suits me. The cost was £15 and change.

I've had cobs last years... I have also had them last 20 minutes (bad blend)...

As Nightblade stated, it all depends on how ya smoke it...

Good for you! Usually the first pipe experience is questionable... I know mine was... Of course I had NO help with information when I started!

Just think about how confused my roommates were when they work up to find tons of food and pipe smoke.

Well I have a pretty motivational day today...

It started with house work, moved into some outside stuff (rehanging my mailbox after the county snowplow ran it over the other day) and then into the garage...

The weather has changed from the 10's and 20's up into the 50's today, so it's kind of a soppy mess outside...

Anyway, my project of the day...

I had some "things" laying around, Rocky Mt. Elk Antler, MM pipe shank and stem and a brass ring... So I fitted them all together and this is what I came up with...

I bent the stem ever so gently and it is almost unnoticeable... But it gives it some character...

The bowl is about 3/4" x 1.25" deep and only about 1/8" thick on the side... So be the reason that I think it would be a good flake pipe... Slow Smoking and Small...

Now, if you have read this post so far, here is the deal...

Some have had the opportunity to smoke some of my "creatures" while others have not...

So as a Thanksgiving/Christmas Gift, if you are interested in this pipe, please shoot me a PM and I will have one of my kids choose someone at random (sometime between Thanksgiving & Christmas) and it will on it's way to you... After butchering a deer today time for a nosewarmer of Three Star Grey. Among other abuse I found the bullet with the edge of the knife so it needs a little touch up.

Nice looking knife. The shape is just like the ones we use here.
