good luck sailor, storms are about the only thing that have me on edge, if only because they give you that one variable that you can not account for, and that is unexpected. you just never know what they will do.

just to fill you all in, i have postponed the breaking in of that churchwarden untill i later next week, i am gonna order some more old dublin and break it in with that, i have to thank nosewarmer for sending me some to try, i really like that stuff, something else to add to my like list. and besides i think it is fitting a tobacco to use in a churchwarden.

If you want to get a quick coating in the bowl, not nessesarly a cake but a nice film, smoke a few bowls of Half & Half or some Five Brothers... They are mostly Burley and in about 3-5 bowls you should be good to go w/o the taste of Briar... Also they won't ruin a pipe w/ flavor...

Five Brothers is a fantastic "de-ghosting" smoke. I'm convinced if I bought an estate pipe that the previous owner had smoked hair in for 5 years, a couple 3 bowls of Five Brothers would bring it right back to neutral. Above and beyond that, 5Bros is a fantastic everyday smoke. Definitely about 500% of the RDA of vitamin N. I often mixed it 50/50 with Edgeworth Ready Rubbed (back when they still made it.) What a great blend. All Codger Burley, all the time.

+1 for 5 Bros. its my go to for pipe break-ins regardless of new or estate. ERR was/is a blend that I wish I got to enjoy more than the few tastes I've been gifted. It also contributed to the reason I started cellaring my favorite blends in tin and bulk.
