Thread: wild abandon

Anyone ever have an urge to get some food they just can't get in decent quality where they are and had it shipped in from another part of the country at extravagant expense, you know like a Pizza from Chicago or a delicatessen sandwich from New York? If you did was it worth it?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I worked in a tattoo shop on South Beach (Miami Beach) for a few years. There was a bagel joint called Brooklyn Bagel on Washington Ave , that had their dough flown in from NY daily. So I didn't personally have anything flown in special but the bagels were outstanding if you like bagels. If I could get some Jersey tomatoes they would be well worth flying in.

yeah, I do this semi-frequently

The most common thing is Lobster, but I'm contemplating getting in some sushi grade fish. It's worth it to me, but I'm weird

Next year when they are in season I can get you some two ways:
I'll send some down with my daughter when she returns to school after spring break OR I can just box them up and ship you some. I know how to pick them so they will ripen on their way down. Just remind me by PM!

As an avid gardener (about to move into a row house in Baltimore ) I'm curious about your Jersey tomato. Is it a particular strain or do you just like tomatoes from the Jersey dirt?

I had Marmite mailed out to me when I was in Australia. Vegemite just isnt the same!

I would love to order some sushi grade fish.. but just do not know if SWMBO would approve. I get urges for Chicago pizza or Italian beef but since it is only about 2 to 3 hours away I just do the drive. Getting decent sushi in my neck of the woods is extremely difficult though so that would be worth it to me.

alan dershowitz the lawyer opened a restaurant in harvard square called maven's court and had all the pastrami and brisket and stuff trucked up from nyc several times week. it didn't work out. only thing along these lines i've ever had mailed to me is pink salt for charcuterie,

I'm a native Memphian living in central Alabama. I'm not sure what they do to the BBQ down here, but I'm convinced they chop it then boil it in water until it's mush. To make matters worse they serve it with sauce that's about 2% tomato/98%vinegar and of all the odd things put a hamburger dill slice on top! Blasphemy, I tell you, blasphemy! SWMBO and I absolutely refuse to eat the stuff.

I don't pay to have Memphis BBQ shipped here; I just hop in the car and drive the 7 hours to Memphis to get the real thing. You haven't lived until you eat ribs from Corky's, a BBQ sandwich from Leonard's, and a pulled plate from Germantown Commissary.
