The Welsh also have a "thing" for consonants. I suspect it's just so they can laugh at the foreignors trying to pronounce the names on their signs.

edit: of Irish upbringing here. One side of the family is Irish Catholic, the other Irish Protestant. Family feuds are a pest because I end up having to knee-cap myself.

Aww, you're just complaining because you can't say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyryndrobwllllantysyli ogogogoch with just the right amount of spit...

Guess the name is even too much for the forum. It seems to want to put a space where none belongs.

I was raised Irish, not Welsh. What's the difference you might ask? It means I can be utterly incomprehensible without needing a whole page to spell it.
I also don't sing that well.

There are a few in Broadbeach area that are doing the straight shave, Pacafic Fair shopping centre and in Broadbeach mall across from the carousell. 25$ is the going rate, I have not done one yet but is on my list of things to do.

They have told me that they mostly do Grooms parties on the morning of the wedding where they all go in and get the hot towel/shave treatment.

    Hi Guys (non-gender specifically speaking),
I finally got to hear the ad for the barber chain that I mentioned earlier yesterday while I was polishing my vintage razors in the shed.
They aren't coming up too bad and am ready to go to the hones now (I think).
    The link for it is
Jimmy Rod's Barber Shop | Brisbane CBD | The Barracks | The Gap | Calamvale | Oxley
    Hope this helps.
Maybe we should organise a meet up at one of their shops and all get a shave at the one time, although $35.00 is getting up there, I think.
    What do you reckon?
    Cheers,
    Geoff

I guess I will put in my experience with a barber.
Last year I went to an old Italian barber here in Darwin.
As soon as I sat in the chair he started chatting away about how he grew up next door to a barber in Italy and how it was a dream that he accomplished in becoming a barber, moving to Aus and starting his own business.
Being a person whose passion and hobby is straight razors, I asked if he was trained in the art and if he still had any blades.
His face wrinkled back into a warm, nostalgic grin.
With glossy eyes he explained how he hasn't shave a man in 15 years, thanks to people no longer being interested in a barber's shave

With empathy I responded, if you do a good job on the haircut, when my hair grows back to cutting length can you bring in your razors for me to inspect and possibly give me a shave with one, for old times sake. The old Italian's grin turned into a missing toothed smile.
He then went into detail about how he was saddened that shaving men wasn't common anymore and that people tend to rely on the cheap disposibles.
"I completely agree" I exclaimed. "It is an absolute shame that men no longer follow this gentlemans ritual of the bathroom!".
He began to choke out a laugh as he finished his last snip, dusted the back of my neck and accepted my payment.

As I drove away, I saw in the rear view mirror the old man standing next to the barber's pole out the front and a forgotten past time that current generations are missing out on.

I also saw that my hair looked like shit.

    I didn't go back.
