An old work mate had a Doberman that would smile just like them. I've had similar experiences as Grizzly1, with people wanting me to train their dogs. They don't like to have it said, that it is the owner that needs most of the training, as the dog already knows what to do, he just needs to learn the signals and who to watch for them. And to figure out his position in his new pack. As such I tell them to spend just 10 minutes every morning on training with the dogs breakfast as an ultimate reward. I'm always surprised when I hear that the owner, "just doesn't have time!" to do that. Why the hell get a dog then?! If you can't even spend 10 minutes a day with it, they should have got a cat or a parrot instead. Makes me mad just recalling some of the people I've dealt with with that sort of attitude.

There's not much to add to what Mick has said, and with a pedigree there designed to do certian things and if there needs arent met the problems youll encounter are your fault, not the dogs. These are pictures of The Comet a 112lb female, not fat all musele.

Oh, I miss my dag. We had a golden retriever who passed from.cancer when I was 6 or 7. Then my folks got me a pure bread miniature schnauzer. Perfect dog for a family on the go. Boundless energy and a sweet and curious disposition. Ours was a bit large and only barely smaller than a standard and was loads of fun. He was pretty awesome. My sisters cat was so fat that he only weighed a pound less than the dog. When her cat got bored he'd just go over and away my dog so they would wrestle/fight. It was kind of funny. The dog also didn't know his diminutive size. I had friends with labs and great danes. The little thing would launch himself at them and they would play wrestle to beat the band.

Funniest thing about the dog was that the only person who could pick him up and hold him was my Mom. Oh, and he was deathly afraid of the water, which was tragic as we lived on a lake.
On the upside he loved the snow. We just had to shovel paths for him if there was more than three feet on the ground so he could breathe.
He lasted 17 yrs till we ajar to put him down due to deafness and cataracts. Once my kids are old enough to help we'll get one for them.

I don't mind some of the hybreeds but the designer dogs annoy me. A Dobbie bull mastif ok if you're Wanting those traits. But a laberdoodle!?!? Or the worse I've seen is the chaweenie. I'm sorry if you are a small dog lover be IMHO and dog the bounces when it barks, or jumps so it can bite your ankle isn't a dog it's an over grow rat.

I can almost understand a labradoodle, but not quite. I love the eagerness to please of a lab but good lord almighty they leave more hair lying around than a cat. But then when they get bred with the poodle they just look weird.
My aunt had a Chihuahua. I was glad when it died. It always tried to bite me. Maybe I should have bit it back...
Now the schnauzer is decent sized, knee high dog. I'd love to have a giant schnauzer but I don't have the room to run a big dog as much as they need it. The smaller breeds are nice for when you don't have the room run your dog as much as the big breeds need.

I always loved the schnauzer I've been around. My aunt in the last year has managed to adopt 3 AKC registered Danes as "rescues". One her friend hired as a stud and when the owner dropped it off with all the documentation she said she'd be back in a couple hours, inside the folder containing all of its records and paper work was a note saying she couldn't afford it and she has signed the dog over to my aunts friend. I have to say it's probably the best dog of the bunch, and they're all extremely good dogs.

    Well the entire family did.
    We wanted docile and big.
First we had 3 Bullmastiffs, then we went for a couple Great Danes.
All rather large, with the biggest being well over 170 pounds and standing well over 2 meters on his hind legs.

Big, gullible, lazy and thick as bread the lot of them

Not a single aggressive bone in any of them, although Harley, the biggest Dane, Often mistook the neighbors Rottweiler for a Nylabone
How big was the shovel for these guys,Ill bet it was some workout...lol

There seems to be a shortage of us dog lovers...I do like my little bloke. He's small enought to not take up much room on the couch and big enough to keep your seat warm on a cool night when you get up to make another cup of coffee.
