We will assume that every living thing makes it out. So all family, pets, whatever will be accounted for.

I keep my favorite straights the bedroom closet in a toolbox. I also have a fire safe in there with important stuff.

I have some very rare autographed books signed by:

    JFK
    RFK
    RFK Jr.
    Bill
    Hillary
    Obama x2
    Al Gore
    Gore Vidal

and some other autographed books that aren't as important, but got them signed in person:

    George Tenet
    James Carville
    Ben Stein
and two other worthless Kennedy children.

I have one of George Stepamopouloussss books out in the mail waiting for return.

I do have them insured for a **** load, but it took me a long time to track all of these down. The books from the Clinton's, Al Gore, and Gore Vidal only cost me the cost of the book plus shipping and return postage. I sent the books out and they signed and returned them to me. It took nearly a year to receive Bill Clinton's. The rest took about 6 or 7 months. President Obama's were signed when I met him. Worked for his campaign and got backstage passes when he spokes at Wilkes. Carville, RFK jr., and Stein were also signed in person.

I would try to take out the fire

Failing that... I don't know. I am not too materialistic. The house is insured, the money is in the bank, and whatever burns down will be replaced.
Depending on how much time I have, I'd possibly take the photo a'bums (with the pics form before digital) or my rotation box.
Or I might take my daughter's favorite stuffed animals, because they are really attached to them.

On my way out, I might try to grab that big box holding my small collection of rare malt whisky.
Some of that stuff is just not available anymore so it would be annoying to lose that.

I usually have a USB disk with recent data backup offsite, so that should not be a big concern.

I don't know what I would worry too much about. If all of my family, snakes, dogs, cat got out I would be happy. For all I care the hermit crab could be left behind (what a stupid pet).
I would be ecstatic if my house burned down. It is overinsured and a giant piece of junk.
If I had to choose some stuff I would guess my bonsai, stones, a picture of my entire family in the cockpit of the spruce goose including my father wearing Howard Hughes' hat. I can't think of anything else. Most of the really important stuff is in a firesafe. My best razors could be replaced (Brian and Phil would be busy).
Besides my house would go fast: its a singlewide, full of dry oily wood, hundreds of finishes, oxygen, propane, acetylene, glues, solvents, oh and old film.
Man, I hope it doesn't light when I'm asleep.

I would bring my logbooks, those are the only things I own that I consider irreplaceable.

My house is a typical Belgian stone and mortar house, with reinforced concrete floor structures.
In other words: not too flammable. About the only thing that can really burn is the roof. It would still be messy and expensive, but the house would still be there.

This reminds me of the book, Farenheit 451.

I'll take all my books autographed by Moses, Jesus, Mohamed, Buddha, Marx, Nero, etc. and the paintings by Hitler
May be I'll leave Jesus out since he's resurrected and can just sign another one. Wonder if he could bring to life any of the others to do the same though, that'll be handy...

I see what you guys did there.

This was a topic on a sports forum I frequent. It was an interesting topic with some intriguing replies. I wanted to post it here because the posters here are much different. I copied and pasted my reply from the other thread.
