I am with Deegree - the older I get, the simpler I like em. And now after reading this thread for the past couple of weeks, I am getting a hankering for another .
I think I am in the mood for a German - a German with a full Lume face!!
I wanted this one so badly - it's "cheap," beautiful, automatic and German:
But alas it's 42x13! Anything over 40 just looks huge to me... sigh. It's too bad as the one I think I'll end up getting is about $430... which is twice the amount of the Laco. The Aristo:
I'll have to wait till the end of the month which is payday, so we'll see what happens but as Andy said so succinctly... I love watches .Last edited by earcutter; 08-20-2012 at 01:01 AM.

Thanked: 2027Whats interesting about watches is they can be used as status symbols, they can be loved for the complications of fine mechanicals, some are works of art, they can be macho things with all sort of doodads.
Have had them all over the yrs from the rareified to the simplfied.
rarely wear a watch anymore, have some military stuff as knockarounds, have two old bubblebacks that belonged to my dad and his dad,A midsize speedo pro auto, traded off my mooney on this site last week.
If I need the best timekeeper in exsistance today.I just look at my cellphone

Thanked: 1587I don't know what kind of watches I like, but I know what I have: two casios - one calculator watch, one barometer/altimeter/temp. hiking thing; one of those old swatch watches from the early ninety's that were all the fashion at the time; a vintage Omega from the late 50's or early 60's - an automatic winding Seamaster DeVille dress watch.
They are all useful, but I probably like the calculator watch the best.

I don't know what it is HamburgO... this thread maybe? But here lately, I am in absolute awe of German watches. The Sinn and Damasko both, are calling out my name!!
But I got to keep myself in check right now, and $500 is about as high as I want to go. Fortunately there are many great German watches available under $500. Moreover, they are really nice examples too (I think)! Can't wait to get my first "German" lol.David

Keep in mind many of your "German" Watches have Swiss mvmts and have parts obtained in the orient and are assembled in Germany. It's just a big secret. Stowa is an exception they are open about it. The more expensive brands are less likely to go that route but you never know. German law is such that to have something labeled "made in Germany" has a really low bar.
To all you who use your cell phone to tell the time and think of yourself as high tech what you have is no different than a modern equivalent to an antique pocket watch. You have to pull the device off your belt and look at it to tell the time exactly like a pocket watch. Wrist watches were an improvement on that because it was on your wrist and way more convenient. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
