Anyway, mechanical's are awesome. But were I to be a one watch guy... I somehow doubt I could sport one lol. Too much taking it off without something to put on in its place would drive me bonkers ! It would be so... 70's !!

That said - a quartz over $200 short of being cast from a precious metal seems ludicrous to me. Hmmm.... that might cause some hate saying that right there lol.
Really, when you think about it for the average guy who wants a watch to wear and doesn't know squat about them or care a quartz is the best option. You have lower initial cost and better accuracy and lower maint and they last longer. Mechanicals are for those who care about such things or people who use the watch to impress.

You can buy a Grand Seiko Quartz for almost 3 grand. For your money you get the superior finishing of the Grand Seiko Line and a mvmt accurate to 10 sec a year. Some think it's worth it.

I guess I am showing my bias - or I didn't explain myself very well. Like I said, "I" can't justify spending large amounts on a Quartz short of using precious metals. . Again, as I said, if I could only have one, I would buy a quartz... and I guess if I was a one watch guy I also should have elaborated that I might reconsider and buy a more expensive quartz.

Sure if you couldn't care less about a watch a quartz is better. More than likely, if you don't care about your watch you'll also not want to spend much on your watch either and hence, you'll probably end up with a quartz anyway.

It's interesting that you point out that people who buy mechanical might buy it to impress. Now let me qualify this, in my little circle of acquaintances, short of the older galls and gents and the ubber rich, most folk "I" find aren't that impressed by a mechanical. Moreover, those who are ubber rich, I doubt will be impressed with my little "entry level" mechanical from Laco . Most wouldn't even know the brand lol. I think that in order to impress be it mechanical or quartz, the majority of the public need brand recognition... but that might just be me.

Well, I wanted to avoid saying Rolex. yes you could buy a solid gold patek and most wouldn't know what you have but strap a submariner on your wrist and it's a different story.
