Thanked: 4249Yes i remember Doug a goaltender for the flyers and leafs at his starts i think, the player i was trying to be is easy Guy Lafleur,
favorite goaltender for me Ken Dryden, i did play Hockey from age 4 to 16, a winger with a bad knee at times when medicine
wasnt up to par on that, now 30 years later it feels better now then it did back then.

I tried to play just like Doug Favell,he made the easy saves look hard and the hard ones easy. While I was playing midgets(age 15) I had a Jacques Plante mask and in 1972 at the age of 16 I had a face formed mask made just like Doug.Favells .He was Bernie Parents back-up for the Flyers.I use the mask as a wall hanger now !!!!!

Thanked: 4249In those days we played hockey outside a lot and nobody had goaltenders pads, one kid was a goaltender and he didnt have pads,
the pads were furnished by the league. Anyways when we played outside we made goalie pads out of cardboard, many layers,
all taped together and they worked pretty good, and also a chest pad out of cardboard, every day off school we were outhere
for hours great memorys!!

Yep... My first pair of goalie pads were made from the cushion foam in an old couch, wrapped with some vinyl and stitched together by my mother. A waffle made from plywood and a hockey glove with an old belt wrapped around it.A baseball glove for my glove hand,a catchers chest protector, and a catchers mask and basketball knee pads on my arms, boy ,those were the best days!!!!! And then the big day came when we rented the rink!!! At 25.00 per hour !!

A heavy weight battle in St Louis, but the blues could not hang with the CHAMPS and lost a rare game at home, the Bruins needed this game,as they have been in a bit of a slump. 4-2 Bruins
