My brother and I played Stratego a lot growing up. Othello is probably my favorite though. My brother loved Mancala. Now that I have kids, we play a lot of card games instead of board games. Different thread though.

These are my favorite board games:

    - WeiQi (Go in Japanese, Baduk in Korean, WeiQi in Chinese)
    - XiangQi (Chinese chess)

Last time I visited my friend and his wife, we played Jenga for the first time in years. Yes, technically it doesn't use a "board" but its still a lot of fun, especially when it really starts to wobble and everyone starts taunting each other... its intense!

Default 3000+ year old strategy game (Go, Igo, Weiqi, Baduk)

For three to four thousand years Asia has been playing a game popularly known as Go in the west (Igo in Japanese, Weiqi in Chinese, and Baduk in Korean). I learned how to play the game a number of years ago, but didn't begin to learn how to play well until recently when I started playing online on a rather great Go server with other players, a very helpful community, and doing a bit of reading..

In the west even those who do not play Chess know what Chess is. This game may be unfamiliar to you at the moment, but there are well in excess of 100 million Go players in the world (i think something like 18% of the Chinese population play Go, and that's only China), and more and more western people are learning to play.

Comparison Between Chess And Go is an interesting article that compares Chess and Go.

There are a number of online Go servers where players can meet to play.. KGS Go Server is one of them.

Who here plays Go? Who here would like to learn a great strategy game that they can enjoy for a lifetime? (people have been playing for over three millennia, and it is no less popular today) I definitely think Go is one of the finer things in life, and should be enjoyed by more.

I started playing chess at the age of 7, and have enjoyed the game ever since.
At times I've been playing other games as well, but seem to always come back to chess.
