    Old thread, I know.

    I skimmed the comments and didn't see a link to the pocket watch database.. If you have the serial number and google "Pocket Watch Database" you can find a little information about high end pocket watches (Elgin, Hamilton, Illinois, etc..). Thought it could still be beneficial to mention it.

    Thanks for mentioning that. I actually didn't end up getting that watch. About a year and a half ago I bought a nice Elgin $100, but didn't realize the balance staff was broken when I bought it. So, I traded with a guy from Ireland for a German DH marked field watch from around WWII. It had been serviced and I wear it often. Great trade! Also, last week I bought a 1927 Elgin wrist watch, which has a wonderful deco detail and has been serviced recently. I've moved from razors to knives and watches. Still like razors, but have moved from collecting to paring down.
