Thanked: 1371If you're patient and diligent, you might be able to find a used Anschutz for that money. It's kind of a long shot, but I have seen some of the lower models go for less than that.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

TC makes a few good 22's, I'm hooked on the Contender and have had many 22 Bbls for the system and they have all shot extreamly well. Not a one of them was picky about ammo, being a single shot you don't have to worry about loading systems. Plus you can get other barrels for the one frame all the way up to hand cannon status if needed.

I reckon the CZ Brno Mod 2 is as fine a .22 as ever made, even the new CZ stuff is good. My family has had Brnos since the early 50's never needed fixing and ver accurate reliable little rifle, they were pretty popular here in Australia for years
Cheers

I haven't owned a rifle in years 22 or otherwise. Good idea though with the cost of ammo being what it is nowadays. I had a Winchester 9422 lever action back in the '70s that was a lot of fun. I've shot friends semi-autos and they were fun too. I agree with nun2sharp. Ruger or most of the other 'name brand' outfits make good stuff. Go to TheFiringLine forum or The High Road forum and see what they recommend over there. Good forums with much knowledge ... kind of like SRP.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

.22 is a great caliber to go with if you want to get back into shooting. Ammo is cheap and a great trainer caliber. I trained all my kids to shoot with a .22 - just can't go wrong.

My advise:
In pistol, as suggested Ruger mark III Hunter.
In rifle, Ruger 10-22. A great reliable platform to expand on.

There are definitely more accurate rifles out of the box but a vintage (pre 1999) 10/22 is good enough for anything 50 yards or less. With a little work they can be super accurate. I know you said no scope but a ruger charger is darn fun. I put a cheap red dot on mine and inside 50 yards I'm a squirrel's worst nightmare. Check out rimfirecentral.com. lots of great info over there.
