Forgot to mention Montana Gold is the best deal on bullets, and Starfire has the best deal on brass. Both are top of the line but to get the best price you have to buy in bulk (500 or 1000).

Check out Georgia Arms, too for pre-made ammo. I don't know what their shipping is like but when they're at gun shows the prices are good.
I picked up a few baggies of .41 mag "cowboy" (looks like a regular wad cutter to me) loads. 50rds for 23 bucks. Far better deal than the usual 17-25 for 20 rounds around here.
Also a +1 for crossbreed holsters. Comfy and durable.

Thanked: 1936Thanks, but I do my own loads. I've got some 155gr's bullets on the way, still gotta order some brass & dies. I chose the 155's is because of the reason the FBI dropped the round, well one of the reasons anyway. Over penetration with the 180+gr's.

155s - blowing around 15-1600 fps? Its really not a defense gun unless you're defending against bear. Silouettes, hunting side arm. 'Hard to beat 'em. And, they're handsome and they're 1911. Let the cannon be a cannon. Its a dang nice cannon. For defense, ACP will do ya right w/ out penetration issues. (you know you want another one anyway!) They're fabulous for defense. You can guccify them at will.
For a faithful, if uninspiring workhorse that always goes bang - the Glop. If you want a torrid romance, its gotta be a 1911. nuff said.

Congratulations on picking up that Delta Elite. I've never owned one but Colt 1911's in .45ACP, well lets just say I've owned a few. My understanding of the 10mm is that its a hard hitting cartridge but may be a little harder to control for fast follow-up shots. That was why the FBI went away from it and the .40 S&W was born. But certainly nothing that training can't take care of.
I've been carrying 1911's for a long long time and I highly recommend Milt Sparks Leather, especially their inside the waistband holsters. There is usually a backlog of about 6 months but that is worth it.
Good luck, Jim

Thanked: 1936That's like saying a .50 bmg is too much of a rifle. If I pull a weapon, I want whatever I am shooting to be dead...paper, bear, or crack-head. I do like the Glock (it's what I bought my wife for her ccw), but there is just something about the 1911 platform that I love...like you said: they are romantic for some of us & literally like a barbie doll, you can dress them however you want.
Good golly miss molly, talk about crappy grammar...look at that run-on sentence...Last edited by ScottGoodman; 12-13-2011 at 01:27 PM.

Yeah, I agree. The FBI instead of approaching this caliber issue as a training issue chose to think that "Gee this is too much gun for our smallest officer" so lets get a smaller less prowerful caliber. Bullcrap! Thats not to say that the .40S&W is a bad cartridge, far from it, its very very good. However.....As Robert Ruark said "use enough gun". And I remember an old lawman once answering the question of why he carries a .45, he said because he couldn't get a 50.

For night sights you can't beat TruGlo. What's unique about them is that they illuminate during the day, as well as low light conditions, due to fiber optic inserts working in conjunction with the tritium. I installed a set on my duty weapon a few years back and they've been great. As for carry options, check over at High Noon Holsters, based out of Jacksonville, FL..... High Noon Holsters
