Glen, is there someone near you that offers the Utah CFP class?
if not, let me know. I wouldn't mind taking a business/fishing trip this fall.

VA. Daily carry is a Glock 30.
My Georgia Weapons Carry License arrived today. WOOHOO. I plan to carry either a Taurus PT-140 or a Ruger P89 depending on season and garments.
ruger p95 9mm. can conceal it in damn near any weather considering where i live i'm always layering clothing as it is damn near all year. even on a hot sunny day there's no trouble hiding anything under a button up shirt cause I wear my pants the right way and not half way down my ass!
Awesome! I cc too! I'm usually at the hospiral or at school so I don't get to carry that often. When I do it's a springfield XD45 in a crossbreed in the waistband holster. SO comfortable even with that big of a gun.
Not when you have a good belt
I have carried a 1911(full size) to see
I I could (I'm 19) aroundtebhouse for a day and while I was going shooting at the range till it was time to shoot it, just to seeing I could. I could tell that it was pulling down the belt I was wearing, but I could also tell how a good gun belt would act. A lot different, as a lot of times they have a piece of kydex between 2 layers of leather for support (my belt kept folding, which was hat messed it up)
I've also had my mother complaining about her carry gun and concealing in gym shorts......I carried it around in gum shorts with her holster till they noticed it wasn't there when it was time to shoot.
I pulled it it and handed it to her with the statement "see, you can conceal I. Gymshorts"
+1 A good gun belt helps distribute the weight of the gun and makes it comfortable to carry. It also keeps your pants from sagging. A good belt makes a huge difference.
Is anyone using the DeSantis Soft-Tuk IWB??? been thinking of that one for my Beretta 85F
84, 84F, 85, 85F — DeSantis Holster
I believe this is what Lynn uses as I have considered it myself & he made reference to it in a thread that I started a while back. Might check with him...
I have a holster very similar to that. It's for a Sig P229 that I no longer have. This one is made by High Noon Holsters. I didn't like it very much. Having only one clip to hold it to the belt, it would move around. I had to keep adjusting it to keep it where I wanted. Very annoying. I really like the Crossbreed Supertuck. It has two clips, one on each side of the gun. It stays put really well.
A big +1 there Snurd! I don't have any experience with the DeSantis but for my limited experience, the Crossbreed holsters are SO comfortable! They hold securely, easy to re-holster, and feel like there's nothing there all day long, in and out of the car.
I use a DeSantis. I like the way the extra flap keeps the entire gun from touching my side. It doesn't have a clip for the belt. It uses a wide loop with two very secure snaps. The only time it changes position is when I take my pants off.
I've been wearing it every day for at least 10 years. It arrived perfectly molded to my pistol.
I have had the best luck with Holsterpro.com IWB's. Have about 10 of them in addition to my Crossbreed Supertucks. Paul the owner is a straight razor shaver too.
Holsterpro Gun Leather - Custom Hand Crafted in the U.S.A.
On the Holsterpro IWB, I wear them on the right side at the hip concealed and they do a great job even with a full size .45 1911.
Have fun.
I'll do that, thanks.
It doesn't look like DeSantis doesn't make mine anymore.
I'd just gotten my alcohol level where it belongs. Sorry.
No, they don't make it.
Forgot to mention that for holsters I use Simply Rugged Silver Dollars, Long Hunter, or Cuda models for all my handguns. The exception is an Alessi Talon IWB for a mid-size semi-auto.
My new Bianchi holster just got delivered to my parents house (I am in the middle of the secound of 3 moves in about a month) and will pick up and post pictures this weekend!!!
+2 as the wife and I both have ccw permits
How do you like the SP101? I've been having a hard time justifying the expense of a decent 1911 lately, and have been thinking of a .357 snubish revolver would do the job. I can much easier justify a $4-500 revolver than a $7-900 1911. Which barrel length do you carry? Anyone else have thought on the SP101?
As promised here are the picture of my Bianchi Suppression holster with my old butt ugly, but reliable, Norinco 1911

The crease you see in the shirt is actually from me turning and trying to take a picture.

I love that 1911 but dont feel comfortable carrying it. It's not a fan of hollow points and when drawn quickly has a tendency to either snag or give wicked hammer bite. For just shooting around or a trail gun I wouldnt trade it for the world.
bought a smith and wesson model 640 yesterday for 400 bucks. did all the paperwork and the guy went to make the background check call and came back and said there was a hold. i have a very very common name, he said it happens to one in ten sales. i don't have anything in my background that i have to worry about, i guess this is just massachusetts being massachusetts. i don't have fingerprints on file because the cop in my town couldn't get any. i have a pin no. instead. i hope this all works out.
It will, I used to get "delayed" regularly until I contacted atf and threw a fit. At the time I still had a pretty high security clearance. I got very detailed on a few things & flagging all "Joe Schmuckatelly's" was pure B.S. I was never delayed again.
i called today, even though they told me to just show up saturday if i didn't hear from them, explained why i was calling and the guy said wait, i'll call the fbi and call you back. i had three hours to kill before i picked my daughter up and i was hoping he'd call right away as the shop is 20-odd miles from where i was. then i began thinking...wait,. the effa bee eye? Really, not the the ma dept of public safety, the staties?
they called back when it was too late to get there today said, come and get it. if i get out of work on time tomorrow i can go up. they close at 4, i nominally get out at 2:30, but the guy said they were really busy on saturdays. busy? people were like seagulls at the dump there the other day.
now i just have to get this by the war dept, but i just gave her a check for 20k as some life insurance money rolled in.
My Wife's CCW:
S&W Bodyguard 38, or
Glock 19
Mine:
S&W 686-6+; or
Kimber Stainless Pro Raptor II
Now that I see how many nuts......uhmmm.....I meant people actually carry guns under their clothes, I think I need to start carrying a gun again.......ughhhhhh.
i picked it up. bought a little safe to put it in. brought it in the house and fessed up. all she said was, can i shoot it? then she said, it's a lot lighter than the gun you bought me, but i think you bought that for yourself anyway. (20 odd yrs ago i belonged to a club, had me a s&w model 41 with an aimpoint and custom Herret grips. bought her a hi-standard citation to keep me company on the range. why oh why did i sell them?)
Anyone tried the new Sig p938 in 9mm? I've been looking at another carry for when the 1911 is impractical.
Great thread. However, I feel really bad reading it as I unfortunately live in Socialist/Liberal Canada and the Government restricts basically all tools of self defense (even pepper spray for women), because if you look at the crime rate these laws obviously keep weapons out of the hands of criminals (sarcasm).
Therefore, the only concealed weapons I carry are a tactical flashlight and a tactical pen which i carry with me daily. I got a Fenix TK21 pulsated LED flashlight that can blind someone and a Smith & Wesson tactical pen with a sharp point on one side which can do damage in a self defense situation. I got my girlfriend a key-chain alarm, tactical flashlight, tactical pen, and she carries them with her daily.
I'm not Canadian, but based on my experience in European countries, I think the problem is that first of all, legally purchasing a handgun is much harder than in the US, and legally carrying close to impossible for civilians. Secondly, although a search of a person and/or their vehicle and luggage will generally require probable cause of some kind in any democratic country, there are areas within cities, such as train stations and red light districts, in which anyone is subject to search at any time for any reason. This has also become the case in parts of the US, such as NYPD's "stop and frisk" policy - 1,800 searches per day, with the justification of pre-empting crime and terrorist acts. Thirdly, if you do get caught with an illegal weapon, penalties are quite severe. In NYC it is a felony with a mandatory minimum sentence of three (!) years. In Germany, it's also a felony, and while you might still get around jail on a first offense, you will definitely get time on probation and a hefty fine of up to 10,000 EUR (app. $13,000).
Fourth, if you actually draw your illegally carried and possibly illegally purchased firearm and end up killing or injuring someone, justified or not, your life will be generally f**ked for some time. You will most likely be charged with murder or, best case, manslaughter, and the burden of proof to show justification for the shooting will be on you. Even if you manage to do so, the illegal weapons charges as above will still apply.
Fortunately/unfortunately we are law abiding citizens, and not hardened criminals for whom none of this is a consideration. Although I do not always agree with the law, I intend to remain a law-abiding citizen and would strongly advise anyone to follow the law in their country of residence. There are always legal self-defense alternatives to carrying a gun, and the good news is, your chances of being attacked with a gun are much slimmer in countries other than the US.
i believe the laws are stricter with searching people here than America. Citizens have an expectation of privacy and I think police need consent or a warrant to search you. I could be wrong though, but that's my understanding.
And I think the same as you. I was thinking about getting a more effective weapon than a pen and flashlight, as it's relatively still easy to get a hold of a gun, knife, etc. despite the laws, just to have for a worst case scenario. I would certainly rather pay for a lawyer in posterity than a rehab specialist for physical or cerebral damage - or worse, having my loved ones worry about paying for my funeral.
I currently live on campus at a school which is situated in a bad area. Every week there's a violent assault or sexual assault. I also faced some harassment and intimidation so that's what got me into preparing for the worst.
However, the problem with my situation is that I'm not too worried about my safety, it's my girlfriend who I'm worried about, especially living where i do. A compounding frustration is that she's from Europe, and she's here on a study permit and it will take years before she gets citizenship. If she carried a weapon i think she would be intimidated in a cops presence, and not being well versed in the law, a cop could talk her into revealing she has a weapon and then she's deported. Also, if she were to use something in self-defense, she would be deported as well.
So, self defense courses, an alarm, tactical pen, and having me escorting her everywhere is unfortunately all she can afford to have for self preservation. It's pretty disgusting to me that the Government refuses to let citizens protect themselves, but that's just something i have to deal with for another year until i finish school and move to the country or immigrate.
Yes, the laws are similar. Carrying or using a weapon, even in self-defense, carries a stiff penalty.
But, it's probably different in Europe than in Canada with availability of guns. Guns would have to smuggled into European countries, probably from Eastern Europe or some place. We're next to America, and guns are brought over by the truckload. Criminals have easy access to them (here's actually a documentary on it if you care: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq8Qlxu5vxk).
I personally strongly disagree with gun restrictions, because 1)As the evidence shows, laws don't keep guns out of the hands of criminals, they're criminals in the first place because they don't care about laws, and2)Concealed carry permits actually reduce crime as studies show (More legal guns mean less violent crime, U.S. figures show | World | News | Toronto Sun)
In Israel they make you jump through so many hoops until you get a gun permit, that once you get it there's no distinction between open and concealed carry. If you managed to find a valid reason for then to grant you a license, go ahead and cc it. I compete in IPSC, with a CZ 75 shadow, and I believe in practice with what you carry and carry what you practice, so its my carry gun as well...
While these are all interesting replies, couple of you hit it right on the head. I have a wife and two kids to worry about and that is my paramount interest. I also know people who have lots of relatives in Canada and they all have they all have guns, and I seriously doubt their legal, even the ones who live here have have have handguns there and I believe they're kept in safe deposit boxes or relative holds them for them. Also, I made the comment that I would not be unarmed. Which means if I had no gun I would find a knife but I wouldn't go anywhere with them without being able to defend them. Just my humble opinion, and it's been 30 years and nothing and no one has ever stopped me from carrying. And I'm legal to carry in my state.
ive had mine for 10 years here in Ky. I used to shoot alot of local USPSA/IPSC matches. Although I have several carry weapons and a few custom competition pistols, I currently only carry my Glock19, as I really like the Milt Sparks iwb holster I have with it, and have yet to buy one for my M&P9
