I'm watching the new version of "The Thing" right now, too early to recommend or not, just watched 15 minutes
Movies is the biggest common interest my wife and I have, but with two small kids we don't get to the cinema that much anymore, only a couple times a year, but we usually watch 2-3 movies a week at home.Last edited by Zephyr; 06-13-2012 at 07:45 PM.

We just watched '127 Hours' the other night - I know it's old but just never ended up seeing it. I figured a guy trapped under a rock for 2 hours, well you can only do so much with that... but hey, wow, what a great film.
Recently watched:
'Prometheus' - Really liked it a lot, was expecting the greatest sci-fi ever made, but it was just 'very good' - that said, Michael Fassbender was excellent, and I'd have loved to just see an entire movie about David the android...
'Take shelter' 2011 - This was a great film, highly suspenseful. Quite a fan of Jessica chastain, and of course Michael Shannon was made for this role. Looking forward to seeing him in the upcoming Man of Steel film..
'Snow White and the Huntsman' - really enjoyed it, thought it was fresh, dynamic - just a good movie I thought. Kristen Stewart was great - don't know why folks seem to hate her.. and of course proudly South African Charlize Theron is always a joy to watch.
Florence and the Machine's song for the film is also very epic:

i'll preface this by saying i used to run art-house cinemas and film festivals...so my taste is a little off the beaten path.
the last film i watched was Ingmar Bergman's "Through The Glass Darkly" which is one of my all time favorites...but I wouldn't recommend a Bergman film to anyone unless I knew you well or you were aware of what you are in for (i've learned from my mistakes on this lesson...some friends are still mad at me)
last film i saw in the theater was a Danish film called "Wallander: The Revenge" which is part of a detective series (Kurt Wallander) which from what I hear is pretty popular over there. it wasn't bad.

My son & I try to hit them all;
The Grey (very good,, a lot of survival mistakes made, but then it wouldn't be good Hollywood)
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Great , along with the rest of it's series)
Battleship was fun to watch.
Mission Impossible (found this one to be the best of the series)
For Greater Glory (wait for the DVD)
Act of Valor ( great motivational movie)
to name a few.
..........forgot; 127 Hours (Great movie)Last edited by Hirlau; 06-14-2012 at 01:45 AM.

Thanked: 37Yes, The Lives of others is a great movie, I also liked The Kite Runner and 9th Company. Last week I saw "Dark Shadows" and hated it. I don't recommend it. I look forward to seeing Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus. There is an old Ridley Scott movie I would recomend. "Duellist" with Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel.

Wallander is Swedish not Danish TV serie. Actually it is a crime novel serie by Henning Mankell, but only one of his books has been made into movie: Innan Frosten ('before the frost' ???), all the rest are specially written for TV only.
There were originally two main characters, Krister Henriksson and Rolf Lassgård (one and only, imho). Later BBC made few episodes with Kenneth Branagh as Wallander but they were sort of funny because of spoken English with poor Swedish accent.
Wallanders were great books and somewhat ok Tv series. Pretty popular here. very different from typical crime stories. No heroes, no good or bad people, not much action. Somewhat realistic.
There are many great TV series made in Scandinavia and Europe. I have no idea if they have ever seen them in USA.
Well the last two movies i watched was:
Vuosaari (Finnish drama). Trailer here
The Descentants by George Clooney.
Both were pretty good.Last edited by Sailor; 06-14-2012 at 08:11 AM.
